Default Wanna help grow a local web forum?

So some of you may have been around from the days of the old when the AlaskaMotorsports site was up and running, and perhaps enjoyed some aspects of it, or found it too .... something.

Anyway, A couple of brothers have taken it upon themselves to re-invent the site per say, following a similar format only in having technical sections for various makes as well as General jibber jabber and media areas. The new admins are very amenable to making changes, and have done a good job in implementing some changes and/or desires people have voiced. In essence, they are willing to help make it more appealing for the end user. In addition to the new Admins of the site, there are new moderators, a better control on users and they have even reinstituted/revived a Ride of The Month much like we do here, placing that month's winner on the front page.

Short of it is this, as a friend of the brothers, they asked me if we would give the new site a whirl. With the new admins and structure, hopefully it will be a more welcoming site. So yeah, go over to www.motorsportsalaska.com and check it out.

Tell them to make registration easier. I found that site a while ago after alaskamotorsports went offline but haven't been back after I saw you have to post to their facebook or get a referral from a current member to join.

I agree with above posters, if you want to grow a forum, registration process needs to be open.

the reason the log in system is "complicated" is because of spammers. ot was a big issue with AKMS and i think is a reason why it went down.

There are a couple of ways to register here. It definitely starts with knowing someone on the site. The two different ways to get registered are:

1.) Post on the official MSAK Facebook page that you'd like an account. A forum admin can help you out from there (yes, we watch the Facebook page).

2.) Know someone already registered? Have them send an admin or moderator a PM here on the site. Definitely a fast track to getting your account set up.

3.) Send an email to [email protected] and one of us will have it created within a couple days for you.

That's it!
I am a Moderator on the forum and would gladly relay any feedback to the Admins. Emailing a User Name & PW seems easy enough? Let us know what we can do better. Thank you

Registration for me was easy. I sent a Facebook message to an administrator and within 24 hours I had a username and password. No different from registering on NASIOC except I contacted an actual person.

I too found registration to be relatively easy. I have however passed along the comments regarding easier joining of the site.

How about normal registration like any other forum but you can only post in a public/guest forum or thread until your account is approved by a moderator.

^^^^Agreed. You could just make the admins approve each registration request too.

What about people who don't have a facebook?

You have spoken, and they have listened.

I have just been informed from the powers that be that registration for the site is now Open. You may now go forth and post.
