Exclamation In the Middle of Removing Stock Inlet Hose and Have a Problem...HELP PLEASE !

Hey...I'm in the middle of removing the stock inlet hose on an 04 WRX to put a Perrin one in. Heres my problem:

I've removed all the hoses from the stock inlet except the sensor or #5 (refer to http://www.scoobymods.com/forums/sho...ighlight=inlet to see what hose #5 is). It seems that this piece is plastic to the inlet pipe and not rubber. It wont just pull off. How do I get it off? I dont want to mess up the sensor.

Thanks!

You have to cut it off to remove the factory inlet hose.

Use a hacksaw blade and cut it off. Unless you pull the intake manifold, that's the only way to remove the stock inlet pipe.

That piece with the ridges on it seems like it is part of the sensor. It's really long and connects to the grey sensor. It's part of the inlet and ok to chop?

Don't cut anything!!! That airflow sensor slides right off! First disconnect the sensor wire, slide off the hose and the gray sensor will slide right off of the inlet pipe.

Oh, and then you can cut what is left over on the inlet...

I just want to make sure that the part I cut has nothing to do with the sensor...This long, black piece is part of the inlet right?

#5 in the picture you indicated is just a hose nipple. Don't know if it's different on the '04's, but on my '02, you just pull the hose off and then cut the nipple off. There is no sensor on the inlet pipe that I know of. . .just the recirculation hose and other breather hoses.

The air flow sensor is for the PCV valve and is new for 04+. It is safe to cut the black inlet piece after the sensor is removed. You will not be able to fit that sensor on your Perrin inlet pipe (unless the pipe is made for 04+). For mine, I had to put the hose for the PCV valve on the inlet pipe without the sensor. I then stuck the sensor in PCV valve hose clip so it would not sit against the coolant resevoir or intake manifold. I believe the sensor is there to throw a code when the PCV valve needs changed. I have mine remove for over two months with no adverse affect.

See if the sensor slides on the inlet. If it does not, does put the hose over the nipple on the inlet. That is how it looks on the 02-03 wrx. Leave the sensor off. I put my sensor on a hose clip that is close to the coolant resevior, just so that it would not bang all over the place.
