To Part out...or not to part out...that IS the question
Hello All,
I need some advice from some other subie enthusiasts. I plan to sell my stage 4 2002 silver wrx. I have had it for sale under the classifieds from some time now with little interest. I have dropped the price again and again. Now I am wondering if might be better to part her out and sell as a stock car. It might up being more work than the savings I would get so thats is what I am looking for someone else opinion. Here is the list of mods I have done, and the question is would I get more selling most of these parts off and then selling the car near stock OR should I keep trying to sell her as the awesome 300 whp stage 4 car that she is? To answer your question need to know how many miles are on it, and what do you have it listed for? (link to classified ad) Little things I would do first... put the silver wheels on the car, and finish debadging the "Subaru" on the trunk.

well unless you have all the stock parts already, it's going to be a very long journey in going back to stock -even if you have the stock parts on hand ready to be swapped. the process of selling your mod parts and hoping to break even isnt going to happen, so take that into account as well.
there's also no guarantee on a buying time or a buyer in the first place, it's all subjective. my recommendation: put it up on facebook, craigslist, washington post, ebaymotors, etc. some kid will probably swoop in and scoop it up. |

Hahahahahaha ohhh i dropped a tear there from laughter. Stage 4 at 300whp with a stage 3 clutch and you expect to go stock and sell with that clutch installed i assume. I also assume your on stock turjo still? Paha. You will get WAY more if you take it back to stock and sell all the goodies as parts dont add value to a car and to some it decreases value as it shows obvious signs of abuse. Stage 4 sold= bluebook value. Stock= blue book value plus easier sell. People want stock. And then you can get most of what you spent on parts back out. That's assuming you were smart and kept your stock parts. This is a no brainer

Have you thought about going to CarMax to see what they would offer you? I did a partout on all my cars. In the end, I would have rather just ate the loss and sold as a whole. |

Personally I have always parted out all of my previous cars but none have gotten as far in-depth as yours. My reasons for parting it out were to jump up to a newer model where those parts would still fit or could be extras for project cars.
very rarely if at all does anyone break even with the time and money they have spent on their vehicles. if you do part i would definitely pick up some of your parts. good luck on your decision |

Thanks for everyones input.
here is a link to the ad - http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=2329969 88,xxx miles, $12,000 I have every single stock part ever! It makes me sad to spend that much money on tuning and getting her just right, just to take her back to stock to sell. $$$ > Being Sad so if i can net more money parting out and selling stock that maybe be something to consider. |

man 12k ouch. At best this is a car for a teenager now for ~8k.
All the suspension stuff has to stay unless you want the pain of removing it and selling it for pennies. Clutch isn't adding any value.... Only things you are going to be able to pull off and make back some dollars are the turbo, top mount, exhaust, injectors, short shifter, gauges (not worth anything), BOV. good luck. my .02. ------- Now, all the 'stock' parts you don't reinstall sell on here, some of the folks are looking for the stock bits. you either got your work cut out for you returning to stock to sell, or else cut your loses and sell it to someone who is a mechanic and can fix most the issues themselves. also, for reference my 2007 wrc with 72k miles is blue booked at 12k. your looking at 8k best realisticially honestly, youve spent all this time and money you may as well keep it. |
