Default Who from FL is headed to the Dragon (caravan?)

Since I'm too lazy to exhaustively search the dragon db
to see who's going, I figured I'd start a new thread.

Who from FL is headed up to the dragon? What day is
everyone planning on leaving/getting there? Are there
still plans to caravan or meet up before the drive there?
I know juztin and some others had mentioned that might
happen...

Since it's getting close to Dragon-slaying time, I figured I'd
ask. I'm also trying to figure out when I want to head up
there and what not - I probably will be heading to Asheville,
though, and not straight to the dragon-area...

you clubbah's can email me if you want - [email protected]

Well I know myself, smacksube and subaby are going. And I dont think we are caravaning. But I will give you some advice.

When we went last year (Xeno and myself) we got home on thursday went to sleep and got up at 1:00am on Friday and left for NC. We arrived there at about 5:00pm friday. The thing is it is a fast trip until you hit NC then it seems like hours of driving up and down mountains till you get to fontana village.

If anyone wants to caravan with us PM me, we will be leaving early and we are making a stop at Porters house on the way. But if you want to follow us just let me know and I will work out a location to meet with you when we are heading to NC.

Well, the NC section should only take about 2 hrs now... I found a better route. I was an idiot for taking 19 straight through last time... this time up we'll stay on 74. Much quicker.

I believe that Fernerly and I will drive up together. The tenative schedule is to leave Thursday night and drive to GA...just because its 400 miles.

Then we'll get up Friday morning and do the rest. Its a long trip from Miami!

Also, Porter, do you recommend my usual Asheville route ( I-95 to I-26) or should I go to Atlanta? I don't know which route is shorter.

And finally, are any South Florida (Miami/Ft. Lauderdale) people going?

Matt, it's about the same either way. You could go through Atlanta and pick up 575 and head up through N. Georgia directly toward Robbinsville, or you can take 95/26 to Asheville, then 40 West to exit 27 and stay on US 74 until you pick up Hwy. 28 to Fontana.

Personally I think that 95/26/40 is a prettier drive because you miss Atlanta. Let me know if/when you're coming through the G'ville/Spartanburg area, if the timing works out we'll all caravan from here. It's about the same whether you take 26 all the way to Asheville or pick up I-385 to Greenville and take US-25 North to Asheville like I will be doing with Cpages2 and the gang.

Let me know what your plans are! I think you still have my cell #... 864-414-0818

Here you go Matt... this is the route that Cpages2 and company will be taking with me. It's just as quick as going through Spartanburg, plus we'll be having lunch in Greenville and then scooting to Fontana. It's about 3 hours total from my apt. to Fontana Village.

That's what I thought. Plus I really like the drive up I-26 and the drive out of Asheville.

I'm pretty sure I've got the mobile, but I'll put check again.

Leaving Tampa Thursday night or early Friday morning Porter e-mail me with some good directions, I'll be heading up I-74 to Atlanta, then up from there...is I-575 better than I-985??? Give me the scoop!

I'll be the madman in the Silver RS pulling a trailer full of tires with a little girl in the back seat yelling "Go Faster Daddyyyyyyyyy!"

Good Lord!!!! This is quite a coincidence. I have known about the Dragon meet for some time, but not the exact location. I just got back from the Fontana/Tsali area. I was there on a mountain biking and camping trip. I was near the Dragon and didn't even know it. How strange.

Well anyway, I'm going to try to make it if I can. I'll keep up with all of the info and let you guys know.

I think it might be slightly faster to come up 985 but it's probably 6 of one...half dozen of another. If you come up the 985 route, just keep going toward Franklin, NC (by way of HWY 441).

When you get to Franklin, you have a choice...stay on 441 which is 4 lane or go straight through Franklin, pickup Hwy. 28 which is amazingly beautiful and great practice for the Dragon.

I could meet a bunch of you in Franklin if you like and show you the FUN way to the Dragon.

Pending the arrival of my 2 new tires...(Somehow a very large piece of metal ended up in on of my rear tires!!!Through the tread and out the sidewall! ), the repair of my strangely behaving clutch, and hopefully passing the CCNA exam tomorrow (Yes, I took the CCNA last week too!...missed it by 3 #%@$$^ points!) I should now be leaving sometime Thursday morning.

I'll see how far we make it, We'll be taking our time since there's no hurry!

Reckon we'll be leaving Miami around 7pm on Thursday. Car's getting brakes tomorrow so it should be ready.

I think Valdosta, GA will be my stopping point, but it depends on what time I leave, and the amount of Red Bull ingested.

i think i just realized that the title to this thread has some awful
grammar...oh well.

well, i've narrowed down my time to leave for NC - either
thursday night, or friday morning. who's doing the same (leaving
at either of those times)? I'd still be up to caravan, I figure
it's better than following truckers...heh.

ok...so i've made my jedi-influenced decision...
i'm gonna try to leave melbourne around 8, 9am friday morning.
if i fly, i might make it to the evening prestige meet (g/f's house
isn't too far from there). if not, i'll see everyone saturday
morning...

anyone else from FL leaving tomorrow? i can wait to meet up
or meet in GA/etc if anyone is interested...nothing quite like a
suby caravan.

Andy....we Miami folks may try to make it to Valdosta, GA or at least the state line area tonight. If you leave early enough, you may be able to ride up with us, but I don't think we're going to Asheville---not enough time.

I'll pm you my mobile number.
