Default CAI install!! '07 2.5i

i am mid-install of the cosmo racing cold air intake...i successfully removed the stock intake, and have began to piece together the cosmo cold air in the engine bay. from the engine it makes sense, but, where does the second small pipe come in (the one that connects the maf sensor to the cone)??? does this install require removal of the fender?? i cant see how the cone filter fits down in the wheel well (where its supposed to go) without going from the bottom.

who has exp. with this install please help!!!

thanks, anthony

just remove the wheel and the splash guard . fender stays put . plenty of crap you'll need to pull out of the wheel well.

you have to pull the stock air box out too if you didnt know.

Yap. You may also want to experiment the SRI setup as well as the CAI setup. The SRI is even easier as you know.

here's where im at now:

i fit the whole intake together in its respective position, however, i turned the smaller pipe upside down (because the other way would not fit at all) and ran it through the other hole (the one closer to the front of the car). i seemed to have some success but im not sure the filter is going to fit on (not sure theres enough room in the fender). i did manage to remove part of the wheel well in order to reach the part of the pipe where the filter attaches..any more input or suggestions???

Don't do it. Have you read the thread about how CAI/SRI are bad for N/A? It's a sticky by Willitay.

No, there's not. Literally everyone who has claimed not to have the problem has proven to be wrong when they manned up and showed the data.

Ya. He knows what he wants!
You know I love my SRI. Its response is for sure better. Will report back the car's longevity. This may take a little while though.

It's not.
But it is YOUR car, so have fun!

IMO I would just use the CAI bits and fab up the hybrid, but of course what does NASIOC know.

Here is the install instructions just in case you didnt have em.

http://www.injen.com/galleries/produ...directions.pdf

But then again, you got a cosmo.. soooo

Im getting my Injen soon.

The directions say its for an 05 RS but Im pretty sure its the same set up for our cars.

And I also read Williaty's thread and its some good stuff, it really made me debate on doing a hybrid or not. I think Im gonna go with the Injen CAI and see the response, maybe most people are having issues when buying poorly manufactured CAI's. Unless williaty has tested his theory with the Injen Intake.

Keep it up either way, Good Luck!

I can really start to see now why williaty doesn't even bother anymore sometimes. It pains me to no end to see stuff like ^ . I mean did you even read the thread? it doesn't matter what CAI/SRI you use and quality has absolutely nothing to do with it! They all cause the same thing when you remove the resonator...

In an effort to make this not a personal attack...
Yes you can use the 05 RS Injen intake on a 06/07 2.5i. All you need is a T connector for the 3 vacuum lines and your done. If you are not tuning for this setup then the sad part is you will likely never notice the problem you are creating by removing the resonator.

I'll buy your stock intake from you if you want to get rid of it. I just picked up an '06 2.5i with a short ram intake on it that I want to return to stock. I've been trolling ebay, but all I've found is WRX intakes. PM me if you're interested.

Hey dont get your panties in a twist

All Im saying is, if I was gonna make a bold statement by saying that ALL CAI's cause the same thing, then I would test my theory on more than one. Im not saying I dont believe him (the guy OBVIOUSLY has more experience in this field than me), Im just giving my unexperienced opinion. And when he does do it and proves me wrong I will be humble, shut my mouth, and say.. Damn, your the man.

Send me a free Injen if you want it tested. No way in hell I'm wasting my money on one.

I really would man, like I said I dont doubt that you are right. Im a service technician in the low voltage industry so I have to troubleshoot issues on a daily basis. There have been times where there were contributing factors to a problem that I didnt know about and found out later through intense troubleshooting, so it is in my nature to ask questions to learn more about what causes these issues.

On another note, when driving the vehicle with a hybrid vs. the CAI was there a noticeable drop in hp or throttle response?

Honestly, the intake itself has NOTHING to do with the problem. That's why both CAIs and SRIs react the same and why the brand/model of the intake doesn't matter. The entire problem revolves around the Helmholtz resonator in the fender.

If the intake air passes through the Helmholtz resonator, the intake is going to work. If the intake air does not pass through the Helmholtz resonator, the intake is not going to work. Period.

And the hybrid feels exactly like, and I'm willing to bet would dyno exactly like, any CAI or SRI.

Man, thanks so much for the reply. Im slowly learning all this stuff but I'm glad you cleared it up. Now I know what to go with. I guess the issue now is searching the web to find the "ebay setup" that I need.

I will sell you my stock intake with the air box, pipes, panel filter, filter box all that. It has only 9500 miles on it when I got these out. I am not on a hybrid. got no use of this stuff. It maybe hard to find cause everyone seems to be on hybrid.
