Default Anti-freeze smell from engine??

I have MY02 WRX, 53,000 miles, no mods (except recently had a new clutch and flywheel assembly put in to correct clutch shudder in cold weather). I have started to smell the scent of anti-freeze coming from my engine bay when I lift the hood. Any ideas where this could be coming from??

Thanks

check the seal on the top of the radiator where the metal is crimped onto the plastic top tanks - 02's are notorious for leaking there (it's not a big leak - more of a weeping sort of thing - just look along the crimp and see if there is a bunch of green coolant residue.)

Yeah me too. I just realized this week I have a coolant leak somewhere as well. I put coolant in the reservoir. Some time later after driving for a little while I smell coolant and even see it evaporating through the hood scoop. I'm hoping its just something that came loose and not something broken.

I found that if I overfill the reservoir, and I drive hard, the coolant slops out and hence the smell. Did you notice the smell only affter topping the reservoir?

Actually, I just started noticing the smell over the last week or so, and I haven't filled fluid into the car for at least 3-4 months. It just all of the sudden started to smell like that.

Thanks

Josh

What does antifreeze smell like when it's burning? Slight highjack.

smoke is white - if you want to smell it, go drive your car, then when you get back, drop a couple of drops of coolant on the downpipe heatshield. (you won't hurt it - obviously, don't remove the radiator when the car is hot to get the coolant)

Impreza WRX STi mystery smoke fix

well with mine i had to make expensive mods to figure it was a 1.99 fix (a hose clamp at home depot is freakin stupid)
well anyhow, i was getting the same mystery smoke and took it back to subaru and they said i fried the turbo cause my turbo xs rfl bov caused the seals to go bad. well a friend was demoding his rex and gave me a price i couldn't refuse so i went ahead and put everything on (perrin uppipe, vf30 turbo, xs dp,testpipe, sti pink injectors, xs massive topmount, and utech) well it ran fine for a day or so and then i saw the mystery smoke again! well i pulled it in to our shop and found the problem. the coolant line going to the turbo had a freaking loose clamp. $xxxx for a freaking hose clamp. never would have seen it if i was still running a heat sheid.
so long story short see exactly where it's coming from.
but thats what happened for mine

Yes - you can drop it on anything hot enough to evaporate the coolant.
