Christmas mod bug- dd upgrade
I have an 06 wrx tr with the following mods:
Vf39 Sti top mount Gm boost solenoid Turbo back Megan racing coil overs Rota torque r with 245/45 re01r New deck and small sub I'm getting the mod bug again and am just looking for something to improve daily driving enjoyment. Kinda worried about the tranny so i was thinking lighter wheels/tires but that's pretty speedy for light/wide wheels. Lets hear what you would suggest! Thanks

Anything you can so the the suspension on these cars is an upgrade. Sways, end links, hard mounts, fender braces, strut bars, chassis bracing, and bushings are all good places to start, and you will notice the difference immediately. ~Evil |

At least a rear swaybar. It's a MUST for any Subaru... especially daily driver. I advocate strut bars too, mainly for the engine bay bling, but the rear does actually help.. more-so in wagon. Only get Ebay ones IMO. You don't see a big difference between name brands and those... people will tell you otherwise.
What about brakes.. even just pads and rotors? |

Kartboy short shifter w/ bushings and a nice shift knob. Easily the best daily upgrade EVER. I promise you, it will be one of, if not the best investment(s) you'll make with your car.

I noticed my shifter is pretty sloppy, this will probably be my next mod. And if you skip the shifter it's only like 50$ for the bushings. I've never had knob I liked better than factory though. They're all kinda cheap and universal and made out of things like cold metal or cheap feeling plastic, factory knobs are usually wrapped in leather and have the gears printed on them.

Shifter trunion bushings will get rid of the side to side slop. TIC sells those for like 20-30

I guess the knob is personal preference. I use this:
http://lathewerks.com/shop/product_i...roducts_id=167 Both feel awesome. No burning your hand off when it's hot out. As far as the shifter goes... seriously. Just do it all at once and be done with it. I couldn't go back to a stock shifter if I wanted to. The throws are so much shorter and they feel literally 100% better than stock. Best $150 that I've spent so far. Last edited by scoobasaurusrex; 11-29-2012 at 09:56 PM. |

Haha awesome. Would a short shifter add wear and tear to the tranny? I'm worried about it at these power levels as it is.

Speak of sways -- I have a set of perrins for my 04STi (just recently acquired, used to belong to a friend) and remember we could only get the back one on w/o having the motor out -- is that true? Haven't looked at it since I became the owner of the car, but the front one is still sitting in my garage and I just had to rebuild the motor and just dropped it in, so I'll be really mad if it did need to be done while it was already out :P

No, not at all... As long as its installed and aligned correctly. All its going to do is give you shorter throws and more confident shifts. The stock shifter is so sloppy, I dont know how anyone can drive around with it. SS definitely gets my vote, though EWGs are awesome too. Just be prepared for loud.

Rear sway bar/endlinks and a short shift...you'll fall in love with driving again. Pretty easy, and a cool $450.

Fender cowl braces. If you know a welder, make some of your own. It's amazing.
