I'm in New York, only California has tougher emission testing, lol. I have a 2002 wrx with a 2003 ej207 swap, twin scroll turbo, Tomei catless down pipe runing on a jdm ecu. My car did pass inspection recently but had to install the usdm ecu for for the state inspection computer to be able to communicate with my car. The inspection computer would not communicate with the Jdm ecu. You will have to deactivate all the tgv related diagnostics on the usdm ecu in order to not have a check engine light. You will want to unplug the avcs when runing the car with the usdm ecu. Ideally you also want to tune the usdm ecu to work properly with the 565 injectors on the ej207. Once a year I'll have to install the usdm ecu in order to pass inspection.
Ecu work done with open source. Last edited by D-Rodman; 11-19-2012 at 06:01 AM. |

I'm about to be a new ej207 owner.
I was told that the only way to tune the JDM ECU is through ECUtek, is that correct? |

False, you can open source tune it. If your lucky enough and have the extra cash lying around you can try and locate a JDM access port.

Ok cool. The one I will be getting, the ECU can only be connected by ECUtek for some reason. Maybe I just need to buy another JDM ECU? |

Well I joined the club, or rather my wife did.
We picked up this car for her. Its an 02 with a version 8 Spec C drivetrain swap. After driving it home a little over 1200 miles, I have a full appreciation for the 207 that you just can't get until you drive one. I just ordered bigger injectors and a fuel pump to get it on E85. Even 93 just doesn't cut it for this engine. One issue I need to solve pretty quickly though is a leaky axle seal on the passenger side. I've been doing some research but I haven't been able to figure out the correct part number for the axle seals and the axle clips. I want to replace all of them this weekend while I'm putting on new shocks. Thanks in advance. Obligatory pic: |

hey, if you want a good tune on that car hit me up. I am in Wisconsin and have a v8 of my own. I do opensource tuning and am attempting to stretch my customer zone to something a bit larger than NE wisconsin.
if your front axle seals are leaking take the axle off the car by taking the nut off. popping the lower ball joint off and then pulling the axle out of the transmission. then put a mark on the circle cover with all the teeth and on the housing. take the locking key off that is held on by the oen bolt then spin the cover off counterclockwise. count the turns out just in case. pull the seal out. get one from the dealter and tap it back in palce with a socket. spin the cover back in to its original location. leaky problem solved! as far as 93 octane the engine tunes great in my opinion. tuned my ej207 and a local guys ej207 and they make great power on 93. e85 you can turn the timing and boost up a bit with the stock turbo but a larger turbo would really help with the top end. on a side note i got a few extra avcs harness's made up for sale if anyone needs one for there swap hit me up! lots of ppl on the forums can vouch for the harness's quality and function! |

good luck finding a decent price jdm ecu. they are becoming hard to find. most likely it was ecutek tuned and is now locked. get ahold of someone in your area that can tune ecutek because they can prob unlock it for a decent price so it should work for you.

Everything I read about the replacement procedure matches what you are saying except I read that the sundial actually rotates out clockwise and back in CCW - is that not right? Where is the locking key you are talking about? I didn't read about that or see one on the tranny. Also - do you know the part numbers for the new seals and clips? I can't seem to find them. Thanks. |

no idea on part numbers.
here is a picture of what im talking about. i swear when i took them out of my 5mt they came out lefty loosy righty tighty lol. that gold colored thing is the key that holds it from turning. okay glad you got it figured out. they love timing but make sure you log everything to make sure! you will be surprised how much they take compared to a ej205 or a ej257. http://www.google.com/imgres?q=subar...w=1280&bih=694 Last edited by WhiteBgeye02; 11-19-2012 at 02:51 PM. |

I see the key you are talking about, I was wondering how the dial stayed in place. I must not have noticed it. The information I found was here: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=2399150 Its for an 04 STi tranny which I was thinking was similar to the JDM tranny but I'm just not sure if the seals/clips are the same or not. I guess I can just take it apart now and see what I have in there but I wanted the part numbers because: A. My local Subaru dealership is run by idiots and B. They more than likely don't stock the parts I need and will need to order so I want to order the right stuff. |

Although, the great question. V7, V8, or V9? (starts re-reading the thread) |

There are no differences in the hardware between the two really but with the v9 you get a "newer" motor. Meaning better chance of lower miles, sat in a warehouse for a shorter time period, etc. V9 ecus are immobilizer ecus unless you get a spec c, which is a different animal all together. Now go back and read the thread! |

There is more and more and more bs in this thread
Mattrubywrx, The Link G4 Plug in is the best aftermarket ecu at this time for the V7 to V10 engines. They plug in but will require a professional to calibrate them. They have full cam control for AVCS use. http://www.linkecu.com/products/engi...4-plug-in-ecus |

well a lot more ppl reading and then retyping what they see in a slightly different fashion tends to make that happen. plus many new ppl asking general questions which mostly apply to a ej20 engine and not specifically to ej207. this tread has pretty much lost most of its informative matter and turned into a dialy question/answer discussion. no one is going to read almost 200 pages to figure out what they want. they just ask now and say" well just read the whole thread but still dont knwo what to pick" etc etc. when i first read it there was like 75 pages which only took a few class periods sitting on my lap top in history class. now its too hard to weed through it all. sub threads need to be added to the top of the thread asap including a ej207 newbie question thread so it keeps the bs stuff out.
