Default Any guesses for these CEL's?

P0301 (Cyl. 1 misfire)
P0302 (Cyl. 2 misfire)
P0139 (Rear O2 slow response)
P0420 (Catalyst effeciency below expected)

Car runs fine, and even gets pretty reasonable mileage considering how heavy my right foot is.

Mods on car now: None.
Mods on car in past: Turbo kit, standalone EMS, etc.

So far I think I'm narrowing it down to:
1 - Bad rear O2
2 - Major exhaust leak (don't hear anything...?)
3 - Wiring issues

possibly bad 02 sensor or even a bad cat for the last 2 codes....plugs/wires/coilpack for the misfires maybe

Well, the wires were replaced sometime in the last year, as well as the coilpack due to some bared wires shorting out.

I'm wondering if there is any chance that my loose motor is causing everything... leakdown was last tested to be 15/15/10/20 on a warmed motor... I know it's bad, but it still runs good and a swap is on the way. *shrug*

you mean 150/150/100/200?

Nope, I mean percent... and actually, I mixed them up... #1 leaks 15%, #2 leaks 15%, #3 leaks 20%, and #4 leaks 10%. I know, it's a bit of a mess.

My guess... Bad O2 running rich... causing missfires... but thats just an off the wall guess.

yeah, fix the o2 first since you will have to anyway with the new motor. then the cat if you still get the o2/cat below efficiency codes... that might fix your misfires if they are causing a rich mixture. if not, then wait for the motor swap and go from there. seems the most logical $ wise and time wise since you are planning a motor swap anyway and need to have good o2 sensors and a working cat when you get the new motor.

maybe do a o2 sensor resistance test first to avoid replacing a possible good o2 sensor for no reason? just an idea. what motor you swapping in?

Well, a little more backinfo... I'm trying to get the car to pass emissions testing before the end of the month. Not going to happen if I have to wait for a swap. Unfortunately, to get my license plate renewed, I need to pass the emissions test. :-/

I am not sure how to do a resistance test... is it described in the factory service manuals? I believe a friend has my set, but I'll have to give him a call to get them back ASAP.

Now on to this evening's results. I had pulled the ECU plugs to reset it for about an hour, and went on a few errands. Probably less than 10 minutes each, but no CEL's just yet. I have to admit, I'm tempted to run to the emissions test facility over lunch tommorow and see if I pass -- which'll only happen if all the readyness monitors have passed.

1-1/2 days later there was still no light this morning, so I decided to take a chance and bring it in. I PASSED THE TEST!!! (Illinois just uses a plug-in readyness check test)

Best news so far yet this year. I really have to get on this swap, but thanks for the suggestions everyone, thankfully it was just the simplest thing that helped out.

Cool CEL codes

I've been reading this thread because I'm getting ready to do battle with numerous CEL occurrances and an intermittent engine miss/stutter/buck on the 02 outback wagon we have. Is there a master list of CEL codes for this vehicle? Thanks!

Almost forgot... I have a WRX swap almost all gathered in pieces ready to go in, but I need a driveline solution, and I need to do a TON of wiring. Plus, I have to open up and check out the motor... and I have a possibility to pick up an EJ22T.

I typically just search for each CEL code when it comes up (P#### format on google). I've had a good bit of experience with other codes (and specifically with most of these same codes), so it's pretty easy to figure out.

BTW, still no CEL back yet. /me knocks on wood

P0420 (Catalyst effeciency below expected)

I get this one call the time with my Cobb Headers installed. Apparently there's too much cold air passing through.
I've also been told that without cobb headers, P0420 means your cat is done.
I've also been told that one may need a new 02 sensor with P0420. I'm not sure which one is correct. I'm no help.. sorry =)

Hey, got my CEL back this morning. FINALLY... I was starting to feel naked without it.

P0420 is typically caused with headers because it cools the air far more than expected. I am pretty sure header wrap will fix that.

No reason you couldn't have a cel-free wrx swap.

Indeed. All I need at this point is patience for the wiring, to give in to the insane prices of gaskets (which are absolutely ridiculous), and some sort of drivetrain solution. I've got all the pieces just sitting around.

Unless you have a known problem the rs drivetrain can handle a swap.

Plenty of known problems, actually. Rear and center diffs are pretty much open since I have beaten them so bad, and I have had a horrible bearing whine (I think) from the trans for about 16k now. Funny part is, it'll take absolutely every ounce of beating I can throw at it without an issue... maybe I've just trained myself over the years to drive with too much mechanical sympathy. *shrug*
