Default 2013 Subaru BRZ Revealed *official

Subaru releases official photos giving first look at the "skin" of the upcoming BRZ sportscar. Click to see video. Get the video from Apple iTunes.

Confirmed to be "very close" to the final production version, the BRZ Concept - STI features a 2.0-liter "FA" engine, a slippery shape and front-to-back performance elements.

In Subaru's own words:

The lightened Concept – STI features an STI-tuned suspension, Brembo brakes and unique 18-inch wheels and tires. The Subaru-engineered and built chassis boasts a rigid frame housing a two-plus-two interior and front engine/rear-wheel drive layout. With the engine mounted low and rearward in the engine compartment to allow for near-perfect balance and one of lowest CoG's of any car on the market.

The BRZ Concept – STI is designed to combine lightweight, a low polar moment and razor-sharp reflexes for the ultimate handling machine. The low engine placement also allows for a very low and blade-like hood design. Short front and rear overhangs reduce the yaw moment of inertia.

Compared with other Subaru models, which already feature a low centre of gravity and optimal weight distribution, the engine in the Subaru BRZ - STI - sits even lower, 4.7 inches lower in fact and is positioned 9.4 inches closer to the centre of the chassis.

The first RWD Subaru, the production Subaru BRZ will begin production in spring 2012 as the only mass-produced front-engine, Boxer engine rear-wheel drive sports car in the world.

SUBARU BRZ Concept – STI Specifications
Body size (Overall: Length x Width x Height): 166.7 X 70.9 X 50.4 inches
Wheelbase: 101.2 inch
Engine: Subaru Boxer "FA" engine - 2.0-liter naturally-aspirated four-cylinder Horizontally-Opposed Boxer engine
Tire size: 215/45R18 (Front), 225/45R18 (Rear)

The car looks amazing, but I am willing to bet that the (quite amazing) wing wont make it to the production model. Also though, an STI model w/o turbo? Please let this thing be turbo somewhere along the lines

I just hate that I can't say "all Subaru's since 1997 are AWD" anymore.

I agree, I like the fact that you can have 2 subaru's with 2 completely different approaches.

I wouldn't want to buy the same car if I kept my bugeye

well if it doesnt come with a turbo... just buy an aftermarket one. But well said about the 2 approaches. I'd buy it or lease for a daily and leave the sti for fast runs.

Well if people don't bitch about this car not being AWD or have a turbo, what technical aspects would be seperating it from other lackluster RWD sports cars such as the MX-5

No AWD makes it look ugly to me, horribly ugly. It has potential, if it had AWD.

I dig the WR Blue color and.... and... and... I dunno. Nice color though. Hopefully they will offer a turbo and WR Blue on the upcoming Subaru VX. That's the model I got my eye on.

I like the fact they are putting out a RWD sports car. With that you still have the benefits of traction (from a street/strip racing standpoint), and its just going to be lighter. I do dislike the naturally aspirated engine idea. I think that this may not be true, I do not know why Subaru would come from a successful turbo charged WRX, or STI and move into a non turbo charged sports car. Turbos are what everybody wants these days! Hope you are following this SUBARU!
