Default Winter Challenge Rally 2013

Just wondering if anyone is doing it this year? I would like to give it a try but no longer have my WRX and was thinking about getting some snow tires for my Mini cooper s. I'm just not sure it has enough ground clearence to cope with the roads and would like to hear from some people who have done it. My cooper only has 4.5" to the lower edge of the front air dam and I don't really want to mess it up. I should be able to pick up another .75-1" by going with a taller snow tire. Also what's the prefered tire setup I saw in the rules you can run studded tires and wanted to know if this was the best route.

I'll be there, think this is my 5th year in a row. Unfortunately this year they've changed the format and it'll be staring and ending a lot earlier

I don't know what the ground clearance in my STi is, but it can't be much more than what your mini has. And frankly, if you're worried about beating up your front bumper WCR may not be for you. People always wind up in snowbanks and ditches, and every once in a while someone winds up parked upside down in a field.

For the first three years I just ran winter tires, but then I hit some ice... then I hit a snowbank... with a guardrail in it. So now I use studded winter tires.

If you go to dirtyimpreza.com and search threads by WhiteKnuckle you'll find my write-ups of the last several years, should give you a decent idea of what to expect.

If you do wind up going, good luck, it really is a blast.

Edit: Here's what my car looked like 2 years ago after hitting the guardrail:

I ran it in a Mazda2 with studless. Provided you stay out of deep ruts you won't have any problems.

Unfortunately I'm stuck with Mike, my best friend lunatic ******* for yet another year.

But if anyone else is in need of a naviguesser I would heartily recommend Bampalo here, ran it with him the first year and considering nether of us had any clue what we were getting ourselves into we actually did pretty well (we finished, didn't die, and only broke a few small-ish bits of the car )
