Cool Ready for the summer sun

2011 WRX before and after, same camera settings but five hours apart so lighting was a bit different. Maxpro film, 28% back gate, 45% everything else including entire windshield. Noticeably darker and cooler inside but not so dark that the cops can't see me wave to them as I go by. I know the sides don't look that different in the pics but in person they are a lot darker than I expected with 45%, it's easy to see through to the other window but the details of the black interior are hard to see. Cutting the light from the windshield helps the overall effect of decreasing the light bouncing around inside.

So what about factory tint? I know lots of trucks and SUVs have it, what makes it different than aftermarket tint, since factory is what, around 35%?

I'm pretty sure factory tint is excluded from the law as it is oem tinted glass and not film. My Yukon's factory rear tint was closer to 20% than 35% if I remember correctly.

how many people have imperfections in their tint?

i had mine done and every window has bubbles, lint trapped(bubbles) or has a light line(like a border) around the edge of the glass like the film isnt attached as well.

they also said it was 3m but i never got any warranty card and it makes me question if it really is 3m or maybe this is cheap vinyl i paid extra for (300$)

15 on both without being too dark to see at night.

All depends on where it is done. I went to supposedly the best near me. Entire car including windshield was $400. Expensive but looks flawless. They are meticulous about cleaning before install and not rubbing the film on anything when putting it inside. If you have any bubbles that dont dry up after 5 days demand a refund. Write terrible reviews. Make them do something about it.

Hi - Its taken me a while to post these - hopefully its not too late for you ;-) I have wanted to make some minor repairs before taking pix to post, but then I may never get the pix posted. Please ignore the marks on the front driver's side quarter panel -- left by a very nice person (hit & run) in the garage in which I park during the week...

Anyway, this is my 2006 WRX Wagon - San Remo Red. The tint is SunTek Ceramic XP. I have 35% on the front windows, and 20% on the rear hatch, sun roof and the strip on the top of the windshield. These are the legal limits for tinting in NC -- having the back hatch darker is actually a stretch for the NC rules.

During the day time, I would like darker but when backing up in the dark or on wet or snowy nights, I am thankful for the lighter tint.

Two pix on an overcast day:

NOTE: The mark on the rear bumper is what happens when you use the Subaru OEM High Performance Summer tires and get caught in a freak 9" snow storm when driving through the mountains... Can you say, "Sliding backwards, sliding sideways (40') and stopping when the rear bumper connects with a guard rail...". I have left the mark there as a reminder it could have been much worse, but I digress...

One pix when parking in a garage:

What would you guys suggest for good visibility at night? I'm going to be getting a ceramic tint soon, most likely above 35%. But, I'm worried even 35% will look pitch black at night.

I have 20% all around minus front windshield and I think it's fine. Only need to roll window down backing up when there's no surrounding lights. You shouldnt really have any problems with 35% unless you're usually in dark, wooded areas with no street lights.

I have 20% on my rear & hatch & 35% on the front. Your visibility should be fine with 35%. 20% at night I can see most everything except it lacks detail on cars coming up behind me until they're close. So until they get close I can't differentiate between a Thule rack & police lights.

Keep in mind a lot of pix posted here are right after people get done tinting & it takes a day or two to cure. Until fully dry the tint looks a little darker. I don't think 35% looks too dark even at night.

35 all around, 15 on the hatch. Going darker on the back is highly recommended. Picture taken in bright sunlight. Crappy job installing tail light overlays by me.
