I didn't read anything but the title...that being said with all due respect, if you have to ask that question the answer is probably NO.
Save up, get an education, then buy a toy. It is possible to do those steps in a different order, but proves much more difficult.

A lot of cars hit an acceleration ''wall'' at about 70 or 80 MPH, where the car just takes forever to get up past that speed. I guess a stock WRX isn't exactly a rocket, but you get them to stage two, and they will easily run strong well past 100 MPH. That's not a learner's car, IMO. A friend of mine was in a serious wreck in a WRX when he was 18. Triple digit speeds. Another friend's son wrecked his in less than six months of ownership, on a boulder strewn corner less than 1/2 mile from home. He walked. The first guy also walked, but the driver of that car wasn't so lucky, and neither was the telephone pole. Both cars were totaled. As for affordability, I sold my 02 on Craigslist for 5K as well. It was high miles, but a very good runner for stock, and was not beat to hell. However, I told the young man who bought it that if he did beat it to hell, tried to launch it, and never checked the fluids, that I didn't think it would last a month before he blew the engine, tranny or clutch. It wasn't his first car, and it was ''only'' five grand. But how much for a blown engine ? How much is a clutch ? How much to swap a transmission ? A five grand WRX can quickly become a 10 grand WRX. There is a reason why they get cheaper as the miles pile up. But if you spend all your money buying it, or making payments on it, there isn't going to be a lot left over for repairs. Mine had a recent timing belt, less than 5000 miles on the tires, newish rotors and pads, a decent transmission and clutch, good AC, no rust, and a good interior. Even the spark plugs were new. If you are going to buy a used WRX, you want one like that. But how many of them for sale are really like that anyway ? Yours admittedly was ''beat to hell''. |

Okay so i'm picking up my 04 wrx next week. Pretty low mileage for the year(70k). And my payments in total for the monthly payment plus insurance comes down to $416 while im making a little over $800 a month on average now. Thanks for the suggestions, but id rather not wait till im older to get a wrx, Id rather get one now while im still young and codependent without any other bills. I would hate to be paying for college and a car payment, id have no chance of moving out, and I dont want to result to having to get a cheap civic

50% of your annual income is going to a car. instead of moving out, you'll be living at home after college.
well. good for you i guess. |

thats not enough. Stuff adds up, food, gas, hanging out with friends, shopping, just living life. Even if you're still living with your parents, you'll find that your money will be quickly depleted. Hopefully you'll have good luck and your car won't give you any problems. Because if it does, then you won't be able to afford it. Say your car doesnt break, then you might be able to barely make it. living pay check to pay check.

Honestly, don't push away the idea of a cheap car like a Civic. I started on one of those, it was 12 years old when I got it and 18 years old when I sold it but I got from A to B and back to A every day. |

You will regret this when your older...Unless your parents are going to foot the bill for your car/insurance, college, and/or rent and other living expenses.
Good luck |

Good luck man. I feel really sorry for you for making this decision. A car doesn't gain value and is not an investment, only a money sinker. Using already 50% of your income on a vehicle is a poor choice. I don't believe you even factored in gas, maintenance, daily life bills, maybe wanting to take a special someone out on a date.
Do you even have an "oh s***" fund for when something big breaks on the vehicle or you lose your job? I was happy I had gotten a 99 Nissan sentra as my first car. Couldn't imagine my life now if I had the wrx back then. |

Definitely good luck on the decision you've made to purchase the WRX. Ever considered if you were to lose your job? It'd be even worst to get your car repo'd since you'll barely any money saved and to ruin your credit for the rest of your life. Still surprising to be paying so little on full coverage car insurance at your age, and even more surprising to be able to get a loan after 2 months of building credit. My insurance cost more then my car payments at the age of 21. $500 on insurance alone..

Good luck to you, kid.
Stick by this, and you should be ok: Lose the car before you lose your credit if money becomes a problem. You can get another car (WRX) later. Getting your credit back is infinitely harder, and what you do now, early in your life, will stay with you. Remember, it's not just about having credit to be able to make purchases, but good credit will keep interest rates from devouring you as well. |

oh yea.
she cant give you a straight answer unless she runs your credit, which is a double edged sword...it will also hurt your credit to do so. for reference, my payment is about 400 a month plus i burn about 150 in gas plus about 60 a month for insurance and i am 25 and have very good credit and a perfect driving record. **** aint cheap.

Friend of mine pays 300 a month for a 15 year old car that's a slow beater 500 doesn't seem high at all if he has tickets.

Buy a 99-04 mustang gt. Easy bolt on fun and the 4.6 can take a beating. Put on an off-road pipe and rip gears. Buy tires and repeat. Plenty Fast enough for 16 year old.

Now we sit back and wait for the "I blew my engine/transmission, what am I going to do?" thread from the OP. This has become predictable...

Why'd you ask if you were going to buy it anyway? The simple answer is no. I'm 17 and in a similar financial situation as you and I can barely afford to own my 2005 OBS with pretty cheap insurance. Maintenance, surprise repairs, insurance, fees, etc. add up and burn a huge hole in your pocket. Take it from someone in a very similar situation as you. I really wish I had gotten a civic for a couple grand and saved up for a wrx in the future.
