Lightbulb kartboy shifter question

I guess this is the right place to post this?
Anyways...I just recieved my kartboy shifter in the mail. I sorta researched a bit and decided on it even though it lowers the stock shift knob by an inch which I don't like. Now that I have it and looked at it, it has a LOT of thread on it. I was thinking of buying some THICK washers and placing them over the thread so the knob won't screw down all the way. It seems like it has about 2" of thread and if I covered about 0.5 to 0.75" the knob IMHO would still have enough thread to screw onto and hold. This would then in effect, raise the knob back up to the stock height.

Am I correct in this assumption or does the stock knob really need that much thread to hold on w/o stripping. THANKS!

What is the point of buying a short shifter if you are not going to let it short shift? The kartboy shifter is really nice, I have one myself. I really like the fact that it is lower than the stock shifter it makes the shift shorter. Have you at least tried it the way it is or are you just saying that since it is shorter you want to change it? I don't see how spacers would help, you would have to pack it with spacers and they would rattle and shake all the time.

Just use it the way it is. It is a _short_ shifter ya know.

Smile yup

Yup, went ahead and tried it lower and I love it. hehe
It seems to be just low enough, but not too low. I was afraid of my elbow not being able to rest on the armrest as I was shifting gears.

I'm glad you like it! I really like mine also. A nice mechanical feel to it, very precise. The old shifter feels like a pickup truck shifter after using the kartboy shifter.

Have been looking into getting a short shifter for mine, but havent really found anyone in the area that carries much stuff for the WRX. Mostly seems to be stuff for the RS. Any good online sites?

Why would you rest your elbow on your arm rest while shifting?? And if you're not shifting, your hand should be on the wheel... Anyway, glad it worked out for you after all. I love mine.

Post shifting

During ez driving or just sitting in traffic, I like to keep my elbow on the rest and shift with it there...When I drive normally I do keep both hands on the wheel. I do spend a fair amount of time in traffic though.
