MY01 - Too funny! Any pics yet?
Don't worry about the mods, they'll be here soon enough. It will be interesting to see how much boost a chip upgrade will give. MY2001WRX - What exhaust system are you installing? I am very interested. |

Seems to me that only www.subaru.co.jp and www.subaru.com.au has the new WRX on their webpages the rest don't.

The coolest site was www.subaru.co.uk until they went down. An outstanding design, just not very robust. Check there often, or register, and you will see a thorough description of the new Rex.

Bummer, i didnt buy the 95 eclipse because the engine just didnt have that turbo kick(which i love).
I just hope that a full 3" exhaust, bit more boost will solve that problem on the new impreza |

As far as the UK site being down, you can still get in through here:
http://www.subaru.co.uk/Subaru/index2 Pure luck that I found that. -Mel |

So if "explosive" = fast and "even power delivery" = not fast, why doesn't every car manufacturer equip their cars with undriveable power curves to fool the populace? Imagine it, a Kia Sephia with no power down low or up top, but a big slug of power in the middle and no fuel economy. Plainly, it would fool anyone who equates subjectivity with objectivity.
I would actually compare the figures (which indicate that the new WRX is no faster than the old, like for like). After all, having a car that you swear feels fast is no bloody good if you still get beat by a car whose driver swears it doesn't feel fast... Andy T |

Andy_T - Excellent point. Explosive feels fast, but that is a subjective comparison to how the car feels before the boost kicks in.
Let's face it, if a N/A V8 and high pressure Turbo 4 cylinder hit 0-60 in the same time, which will feel faster? Of course, the V8 feels faster off the line, but the turbo feels faster overall due to the late delivery of delicious boost. Its all perception and becomes very subjective. And to be a complete ass and play devil's advocate - isn't the point of driving (as opposed to racing) to have fun? |

I was looking at getting a Hi Tech exhaust system (from a company in Sydney), but a Perth company seems to have caught my eye lately and have made an offer I can't refuse so I might have to go with them. Nothings confirmed yet - so I won't comment. Hopefully by the end of the week I can tell you how much of a difference an exhaust system makes.

Aussie got headlights, I've never seen. They have turn signals in the upper part and are different from Japanese HID headlights! nor the Japanese non-HID headlights.
Which one will we get? |

Well you guys are falling into the trap most *******s fall into. It has that "kick" so it must be fast.
Hell My SHO has a little kick as the secondaries open, and I like it. More amusing is on a moderately slick surface, or around a corner it will suddenly START burning out at 4K rpm. I personaly like the freight train feel of a torque biased turbo setup. For some reason this also has the ablity to scare the piss out of people alot more than a comperably quick car. For example my Subaru running 15psi would pound out the torque at 2,500 and reamin constant to 5,500. In the high temps during the summer the non-intercooled setup at 15 psi on 86 octane had maybe 5 more hp, but it still had that push you into the seat feel of 50+ more HP. So my passengers on more than one occasion were climbing the out of thier seat and strangling the o-***** handles, and All I was doing was a long tercel like 0-50 run. |

T-WRX: yup, sometimes I forget the fun part! Sometimes again though, I just wouldn't mind less stressful power delivery - the one turbo car I've driven extensively (early '90s Saab 900) I drove like a little old lady as I kept getting caught off-boost. The car wasn't that quick, but at 3k it felt great, until 5k when it went flat. 2,999 rpm bad, 3,001 rpm good .
On the HIDs... I don't know that any other market gets HIDs (Legacy, Forester, Outback, you name it). Not the UK, not Australasia, not Europe (expect perhaps Cyprus - I can't work that one out). So I guess HID is one of those things Subaru's domestic market is largely keeping for itself. Andy T |

Hmm.... Well this kick reminds me of when my car has hesitations. You know mash the gas, the car ain't going. then it zooms. I don't like it if you ask me. I think I like linear power delivery. I dunno cus if the kick is anything like hesitations, then I'll pass. It's unpredicable especially when I am turning. I would hate to have a jolt of power all of a sudden when i am going into a turn. It would defintiely throw off the car's balance.

The "kick" of the cars power delivery can be a good thing for the FEELING OF SPEED, but is bad in almost every other way. Usually it comes with bad lag, less linear response etc. It feels good, but isnt always a good thing.
