Default just installed new components and sound deadened the doors...

what a massive pita. but so worth it. i used dynamat and installed alpine type r 6 1/2 in components. sorry for the crappy cell phone pics. i was too lazy to go in and get the camera.

i couple of notes. if you look above the midrange speaker that box is my crossover. it works ok there, but not the best spot. it was easy as far as wiring go so i went with it. it kicks the door panel out a little, but not bad. also, if you ever do sound deadening, dont cover up your lines for the door. maybe run the sound deadening behind them. the door handles are really "sticky" and im wondering how bad its gonna be when the dynamat gets in the sun and really gets sticky and sets. anyways...

Looks good man. The rear section under the back of the arm rest is a good place for the crossovers. My crossovers measure 4.75" x 7.5" x 1.75", more than 4 times the size of the Type-R, and they fit back there. You may have to remove the foam piece from the door panel (I DEFINITELY did), I can't remember how big it was. By the way, those are badass speakers, quite a step up from older Alpine Type-R sets. Enough about what our eyes think, what do your EARS think?

i got them from crutchfield for like 250. thats really not expensive. i personally am very happy with them off my alpine h/u. if i never upgraded to an amp id be extremely happy still. the overall sound (over the stock speakers) are night and day. the sound is much more "bright" and "crisp."

These speakers are awesome. These are the only components that I would still recommend with head unit power, they are quite efficient. They would, of course, perform much better with an amplifier, but should do fine off a HU. I don't know what you've seen them for, but even at retail, I think they are worth it.

To the OP, you should deaden the outter door skin, get a good 75x2 2-channel amp and those speakers will sound even better. Been running the r-types for the last couple years now and nothing but good comments about them from me.

From your original post it looks like you only matted the metal surface the speaker mounts to. What about the metal part of the door behind that. Sorry should have refered to it as the outter door skin. Deaden that and it will improve the sound even more.

Not sure if that's what he meant, but the door cards should get a little dynamat love also. I think he meant the inner side of the outermost door panel, now hidden behind all the matty goodness in the pictures.

correct, the metal part on the outside of the door... The part that you have to cut small pieces, and then reach through the small access holes to apply it, leaving lots of blood in the door in the process. Once you are done with that, cut up tin sheets and cover the holes entirely. (which results in even more blood-letting!)

doing the door cards won't do much, they are plastic so when they resonate it won't actually affect the sound much, at least not nearly as much as the metal pieces will. and matting both the card and the inner door might make the total area too thick to fit back together well.

I noticed the part about the lines to the door handles and am wondering if that won't cause a problem for you sometime down the road. Anyone else cover their handle cables like that? How did it turn out?

Works fine. I used some flex tube and it worked like a champ.
