Default More power 06 wrx

I have a 06 wrx with a Tbe and Cobb AP running the stage 2 map. Im looking to get some more power around 300whp. Is there anything I can do to squeeze more power out of my current setup? Ie intake, ewg, uppipe etc.

Or do I need a new turbo and if so what do you all suggest?

Thinking either vf39, vf22, vf43, or 16g

Thanks

Skip the intake, it's not restrictive at this point still. Even an uppipe will only add a little.. same with headers, etc.

To meet your goal, you're going to need a new turbo. Anddd for that, someone else will have to chime in.

New turbo would be the way to go to get there. That little td04 won't get it there. Up-pipes are already not catted and the intake would be fine. My friend has around 300whp on his vf39 and it spools pretty fast but you will need more fuel(injector and pump) and a good real tune.

Is there any particular racing you do example: drag, autox, track, or fun for street?

I would get a new intercooler, walboro fuel pump and 650-750cc injectors. Id like to get it pro tuned at some point but might run the Cobb AP stage 3 map for awhile. If I pro tune what turbo will benefit me best? If not is the vf43 or vf39 better

Car is my dd so I'm looking for fun reliable power I want to start hitting the track this summer!

VF48 or big 16g. The other turbos are nice, but I think they are small for even modest gains. I've run an 18g and now have an 18g-xt. They are great turbos, but IMO, the bang for the buck is greater with slightly smaller turbos, especially if you have stock block, etc. You should find a tuner first, and get their opinion on injectors, fuel pump, etc.

I will look for a tuner in my area and see what they suggest. The cheaper turbo that can get me 300whp the better. Down the road I will probably do a 20g but right now I want to play it somewhat safe until I put a 6 spd in

For a VF you do NOT need new injectors! How many times do myself and others have to repeat this fact for the '06+ WRX's? They have 565cc injectors which is more than sufficient for your power goals. You don't need a new fuel pump, either.

You will never get a better bang for your buck than finding a VF39 and, preferably, a used STi intercooler/splitter (and of course a retune). You'll be very impressed by the results.

I have read I do and dont but with the same injectors as a sti I should be fine. Im now looking at a vf34 (although I hear they're expensive), vf39, vf43, or vf48. Leaning towards the 34 if I can find it for a good price or the 43 if I can run it on the 39 cobb map temporarily

No, get tuned for your modifications specifically. People wonder why their cars run like **** and then stuff starts to break when they use the wrong ****ing OTS maps.

Get all of your modifications together, install them, get tuned, be happy. FWIW, there's no such thing as making cheap, reliable horsepower. You want increased power? Spend the money, do it right, and forget about it. You try to get there on a tight budget and I guarantee you'll be spending more money in the long run.

Yes there is. This Internet rhetoric needs to stop. It's how high you want to go that makes that in/accurate. 300whp is piddly.

Not when people are like, "Ok, I have $600 to spend. I want to make 300whp!" Should have clarified. Regardless, the principle remains. Fact of the matter is, cheaper is never better.

But in this instance he never said $600. So it was unwarranted. He simply wanted a cheap priced turbo. I did too. I got a vf30 instead of a bigger and currently unnecessarily large turbo.

300whp is cheap to get in these cars. And easily reliable. Throwing out that phrase constantly is simply wrong. It's not true so why is it perpetuated?

I would like 300whp as cheap as possible but im willing to spend whatever to meet my goal and to reach that power reliably. Sounds like a vf34 is the way to go but expensive correct?

Vf39s are cheap and I'm not opposed to them as long as they don't have a waste gate crack. Would be nice because I can run the stage 3 AP map.

Can I get 300 out of a vf39? Is there any benefits to spending a little more money on a vf43 or vf48 for both the turbo itself and tune?

Vf34 under 400 is worth it... Maybe. When you can get a vf39 for $300 it's not really ever worth it.
Waste gate crack is a nonissue.
300whp with a vf39 is as easy as 300 with any vf.

I bought a vf30 because it has slightly better top end. But I'm not kidding myself thinking its anything I'd ever really measure.
Also it supposedly spools later. But I hit full boost at 3000 rpms and I haven't even tried to lower it under 3000 yet. I'm thinking if I had an aftermarket ebcs I could get it to 2800. What do these "faster spooling" ones hit target at? 2799 rpm? Its all negligible.

Buy the cheapest, best condition one that bolts up.

STI intercooler and STI turbo will get your 270-300whp.

I also have an 06 WRX with similar goals. I already have the STI tmic installed....and already have but need to install my VF34 and walbro 255. BTW I have a VF39 for sale as I bought it before I found a VF34

I would like to get a pro tune to get the most power as possible but am worried about my trans and when I get it tuned id like to have injectors and a fuel pump so nothing is limiting my power and also I wont have to pay twice for a tune.

Will my trans fuel pump and injectors be fine with over 300 or should I run the cobb map with the vf39? This will give me about 290whp or so and might be more reliable until I get a 6spd injectors fuel pump and pro tune.

A cracked waste gate wont affect performance or reliability?

You'll run a higher injector duty cycle on a shelf tune at 290 than a custom tune at 300. Many people have made 300 on a stock pump. So unless yours is failing you're fine.

You should be more concerned about the torque killing your trans than the hp. Keep the torque lower and you'll be safer.

Never heard of an actual problem with a waste gate crack.

I bought a vf39 with 50k on it for 350 and it had the famous waste gate crack. Crack doesnt matter, most of the ones youll find will have a crack. If it doesn't have the crack you'll pay a lot more for it for really no good reason. I installed the turbo with catless FP, apexi noir exhaust, turbo inlet (put that on that on the must buy list or I can guarantee you'll have a boost leak), sti tmic and splitter, walbro pump and an AEM short ram intake and grimmspeed EBCS. At the time with these parts the car was pro tuned at no limit motor sports by Clark Turner and Dave Brown and the car made 290whp/350wtq on a Dyno dynamics Dyno.

Depending how you drive the car will determine how long the 5 speed will last. I wanted more power so I did 1000cc IDs, 38mm gate and up pipe, ETS TMIC, TGV deletes and a Perrin 3" exhaust and my car is making 360/411 on E85. I drove it around for a few thousand miles and then the clutch started to slip so I put a brand new 07 STI transmission in it...be prepared to spend a few thousand to do the swap...I would say if you don't launch it and Smash the gears that you will be ok with the 5 speed...all depends on the driver.

Vf22, 23, 24, 30, 34, 39, 43, 48. I think there are others too that fit and make the same power. The higher the number the newer. Newer does not equal better.

Good. I am sure it might be a little better if I was on a dyno or doing a street tune with the tuner right there. But for a 150 bucks ya cant complain. Log log and log some more. It is one of the most important things. And no I was playing hacky sack. the 5 speed is still holding aswell.
