4000 rmp in 6th is just over 80mph, you should be set as long as you don't feel the need to speed too much.

negative. 4000 rpm in 6th is well over 80. 3000 rpm in 6th is ~75. 4000 rpm in 6th is almost 100.
from my memory, of course. I can check later today. I did think 4000 in 5th was around 80, maybe that's what you meant jaypride? |

He said 2600-2700 rpm 70mph in 6th gear. So I would estimate 2500 rpm at 65 mph in 6th gear. Sounds nice to me. My Prelude at 65mph in 5th gear is at 3250rpm. |

BTW, just keep in mind that you need to vary your RPM during the break-in period.

x Neo x,
Are you going this weekend to Phoenix to pick up your blue/gold Subaru? If so, let us know how the deal goes, as well as the ride back. Good luck, TerraHopper |

TERRAHOPPER,
I just got fax to CONFIRM our spot with a 500$ refundable deposit. Im sure the deal will go well. The fax said that there are no hidden charges and that we will purchase the car at MSRP. Im bringing my dad, brother, and best friend. It will be a fun ride. Id never expect that going up to 100mph wouldnt be bad and is still considered in the Break in range. (under 4k RPM) |

Remember, watch your speed. It's too easy to break the law in this car.

Neo,
The speed limit on I8 to the CA/AZ border is 75mph. Once you get into Cali, I think it drops to 65. Bring water, it's a really hot, long drive |

the gearbox was sourced from a car that had an 8000 rpm redline, hence the fact that our car doesn't hit 60 in second and finishes the quarter mile in 5th. The short gearing was intended to maximize the performance of the UK 2.0L STi, and is unintentionally handcuffing the US version in the magazine tests.
I think one of the slight ongoing changes to the STi in the next model year will be a revison of the final drive in the transaxle to adjust the gearing, or possibly even a redline increase to allow the car to reach 60 in 2nd. Shifting at 4000 will put you back to ~3200 in the next gear for most shifts, so the gears come and go quickly during the break-in period oh yeah...if you're pushing more than ~25% throttle, you're going to have to let off before 4000 rpm to make sure you don't go over. The car is very strong in this rpm range, and is very eager to explore the higher end of the tach. It will take some effort on your part to keep the car under 4000, if you are into the gas pedal. Have fun, and enjoy your break-in drive. |
