Default Odd question..fastest hauler of 4x8 plywood

Typically when I have to haul anything large I use my wife’s mini-van which sometimes is a pain as I have to work around her schedule. So I was curious what is that fastest or maybe best driving vehicle that can handle 4’x8’ building materials?

The first that come to mind (and I’m guessing they fit) would be the large SUV’s like Grand Cherokee SRT-8 or GL 63. I don’t actually plan on buying one it just got me thinking.

I guess another option would be a small trailer and a tow hitch but I suck at backing one up. And of course owning a second vehicle like a truck.

If this is more of an off-topic post please feel free to move it, since it was car related I put it in General.

The first thing that came to mind for hauling building materials was an SRT 8 Cherokee and a GL 63?

I don't see plywood fitting into a SRT8 Jeep.

I do see it fitting into a SRT10 Ram

I have a 2005 quad cab hemi 1500 4x4.. I couldn't even fit my new treadmill in the box in the bed..

I'm trading it for a real truck with an 8 foot bed soon. I needed 4 doors years ago when I got it for a good deal, but I need a real bed.

Neither do I. My wife's 08 Grand Cherokee (V6, but its the same thing for cargo) doesn't fit much more than my Forester does. The only advantage it has is having shallower wheel wells inside the vehicle and a *touch* more length. It also gets worse gas mileage, has crappy visibility, and not much more payload or towing capacity. It does ride & handle nicely for something weighing almost 5,000 lbs...

I agree with the trailer guys. Its pretty easy to haul with Subarus and you don't make tons of compromises all of the other times you don't need the space.

Except for the laughably low payload on the raptor.

Yea I don't think you'd be able to close the hatch on a 4x8 piece of plywood on either of those SUVs.

I think it'll fit in a Marauder though, as long as it's supercharged.

He said fast. Granted the Raptor is fun, its not fast. My ecoboost runs mid 14's and is faster than a raptor.

If he is hauling plywood I doubt the 1000lb payload of the raptor will be an issue. It'll also tow 8000lbs, which is really more than most will ever tow, considering most car trailers are ~1500 and maybe 6k with your car and gear. Plus, if he mentioned the jeep, payload clearly doesn't matter.

OP, budget? The SRT10 Ram will be fast enough, and if you buy the Quad Cab, it'll have plenty of payload. The regular cab will do just fine for light duty work too, and if you can drive is a 12 second truck bone stock.

Im partial to my weekend hauler. Runs 11's(not stock), will haul my motorcycle or any load of crap I throw in the bed(tail gate down) and is a total blast too. Throw the suspension work I have in(full hotchkis, bilstein shocks, panhard bar, hotchkis sways) and it carves one helluva corner too
If youre looking to keep it stock, they run low 13's out of the box and can be hand for 12-13k all day long, which is half the price of the dodges.

Wait, you'll call a stock Silverado SS slow and then recommend a modded F-150 Lightning that'll run 11's. You do realize it doesn't take much modding to get a Silverado SS into the 12's, which isn't exactly slow for a truck. Add in the AWD of the SS and I'd say it's the better buy than the Lightning. But that's just my opinion.

Personally, having actually hauled stuff, I don't see how speed matters. Most people, when hauling things, tend to drive slower as not to damage or lose the load. If you're worried about said vehicle being "fun" to drive any other day of the week then why not have a second/third car? Why not buy a 10 year old pick-up for hauling when necessary (cheap to buy, cheap to insure, and old Ford/Chevy pick-ups are still rather reliable). Then keep whatever you have now for your daily driver or toy.

Not all ss's are AWD, and stock the SS is struggling to crack 14's, most are a 15 second truck. I said my lightning runs 11's. My lightning for about 1500 bucks ran 12.4 @ 111, without removing anything but the blower for a port job, stock long block. STock lightning 13.3 @ 103, stock SS 15.1 @ 90... seems like a good comparison.

My buddies AWD SS runs 12.4 with a cam, built trans, vortech, fuel system, rear locker... seems like a bit more work than I had to put in, (tune, pulley, port, traction bars, tires.)

Get an open snowmobile trailer. I have one and my snowmobile has never been on it. I bring brush to our recycling center, picked up a washer, picked up furniture, transported crap that I didn't feel like putting inside the car. I've pulled it with a CRX, so don't give me the excuse that you need a truck to pull it. I have yet to put a trailer hitch on my Lotus, but it would work.

How about a tuned up turbo diesel. Massive torque and can haul about anything.
