Default Aged Tires: A Driving Hazard?

I thought this was some interesting stuff. Always tried to figure out the sidewall "codes"....

Thank you for sharing that. As a father of an infant, the picture of the upended carseat really got to me. I'm going to have to check both my summer and winter tires now!

Wow, didn't know that. Just bought some tires from discount tires, 2 of them were made in Mar 08, 2 of them in Aug 08, so I'm good. Probably if you stick to high volume tire dealers, like discount tire or tire rack, this is less of an issue. Not Joe's garage down the street as it looked like some of them were in the video (although Sears was on there, but not sure how many tires Sears sells).

For those that don't watch the video, there's a 3 or 4 digit number on the tire (could be on back depending on how they are mounted) either by itself or at the end of a string of digits:
example
418 = manufactured in the 41st week of 1998
4108 = manufactured in the 41st weeks of 2008

This weekend I picked about a pound of pebbles from the sipes of my snow tires before putting them on the car. Otherwise they're good for a fourth season.

Yeah.... I was lazy on giving details but good info nonetheless...
