Looks like the current jetta TDi in wagon form, not bad, and I do love their new styling, but kind of expected with the release that they are using the universal platform. I only wonder why it took companies so long. I often flirted with the day dream of what my own car company would look like and how it would work in terms of production. I always arrived at using as many of the same parts as possible to help with brand identity and cost lowering. things like headlights, grill, tail lights, hood, engine, transmissions, axles, etc would all be shared and engineered to work with suv's, meaning when applied to a car they could take a huge beating and would be capable of taking on heavy power mods etc without issue.
P.S. That interior is hawt and they nailed their light neutral color. Beige drives me crazy with how old it looks. Light gray, like silver, is a timeless color of elegance that is never out of style *queue Neil Patrick Harris quote* |

Isn't a Jetta just a sedan/wagon form of the Golf anyway?

The current US Jetta Sportwagen is called the Golf Wagon everywhere else. It's a lengthened Golf 4-door. For 2009 they put a Jetta sedan front end on but they cut that bull and went with the natural Golf front end.
This will be hitting the lots here in the US right around the same time as the WRX - early to mid 2014 - likely as Jetta Sportwagen again. If the TDI (which should be a little more potent) can still be had with a 6-speed fully opted up... it will be hard not to go with this car again. Especially if they keep the interior mostly intact and un-Americanized. I'll just need to trust that it won't self destruct like mine tried to do. |

Who knew Subaru would become a design leader with other companies following their cues. I see a lot of cars now using the squared C or even full squares in head and tail lights.

Very attractive design. This thing looks bigger than previous Passat wagons but not bloated by any means.

Hasnt audi had "c" shaped lights in the rear for a long time? And I know the civic has had a C shape longer than subaru.

Thought the less gen or two Audi were more of a long slit in the rear, and I hadnt noticed the Civic. I dont remember them looking like that on the Si we test drove years ago. Googling, I dont see any civic lights with a C in the lens. Meh, just struck me as Subaru doing the stylized C first.

If you are worried about reliability, lease it.
I took my first foray into the VW world. So far so good. The build quality (at least initially) has raised the bar on what I expect in a car. Subaru needs this kind of quality. VW needs subarus reliability. I pray the next WRX feels like my Golf R. But alas, that may be a wish. OH 2165 miles on my VW and I have not caught on fire or been electricuted yet! |
