Default Mazda 6 Coupe to Arrive in 2014

Quote:
There is this rumour that Mazda is coming out with its Mazda 6 Coupe in the year 2014, this car is targeted at the Audi A5, with a stylish three-door coupe, also an MPS model is also in their plans.

The image below clearly states the Mazda‘s design turning that into a Coupe, with the car’s “wing” grille design still prominent in its place, which gives the car an Muscular look, and this car is supposedly to join the saloon and the Tourer Estate, making itself position at 3rd number in the 6***8242;s family. At the Moscow Motor Show in August, program manager Hiroshi Kajiyama said that, “The CX-5 heightened the brand position. This car (the 6) has to raise it further again.

The reports claim that the new Mazda 6 may have the current 173bhp 2.2-litre turbodiesel in the Sport, and that helps the car to do an 0-62mph sprint in 7.8 seconds, or a turbo version of the new SkyActiv-G 2.0-litre petrol engine with the setup delivering around 260HP, but they also say that the MPS model could heat up the whole unit to deliver more horses. And the original 6 MPS, was launched way back in 2006, and it featured a 2.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine with 257bhp and four-wheel drive.

The Mazda 6 Coupe will arrive some time in 2014, with the MPS following a few months later. As of now stay tuned more details.

So Mazda sells a 5 door Mazda3 that everyone loves. The Mazda6, a bigger car, they refuse to give us the 5 door version. And yet, they're going to bring us a 3 door version? I don't understand this logic.

edit: I guess it doesn't say it's coming to the US, so I will hold my criticism.

Read this:

... and take from that 2 things:
1) Are the words Saloon and Estate words which the US press uses?
2) If not, do you think this article is targeted for the US market?

This article is devoid of the markets that will be getting the mentioned coupe. I agree, the wagon should come to the US before the coupe. However, I would think the coupe will sell in more numbers than the wagon, and I would think that Mazda has the numbers on number of 6 wagons vs sedans were sold here.

If they could get the fenders back inside the body, I think it would look nice.

And if it is like the rest of the mazda products I've dealt with, it should have awesome MPG for its class, great interior look & feel, excellent suspension for the price and intent, and be just an all around awesome car. I now have my eyes on this too

If they build it...

and the side doors are longer than sedan side doors... (rather than this rendering with the rear door simply erased)

If it has 250+ horsepower
If it has a manual or at least a dual-clutch automated gearbox.
If it has AWD that actually works, and is worth the increased parts count
If it is affordable.

BTW... Just to clarify... the text only referred to the "four wheel drive" of the 2006 Mazdaspeed 6 as a historical reference. It did not assert that AWD would be included on a theoretical 6 coupe, MPS or otherwise.

I will be visiting the Mazda dealer to seriously consider it. The Miata in my garage has been the most reliable car I've ever owned, and is lasting through the years better than either of the Subarus.

Exactly. He like the rest of his inbred brethren prefer to have less space and worse ergonomics because hatchbacks are lame. Thankfully we have people like him to buy the always uglier sedan versions leaving the hatches for those of us more evolved.

If they brought the 2 door here, it would be to increase women sales.

Hate to break it to you, but 1) your opinion is not absolute truth and 2) there's a difference between hatch and wagon. A hatch was traditionally a sedan (4 door) with the trunk cut off, like a BMW 318 hatchback versus the 318 coupe/sedan, so your space argument is invalid. A wagon is a sedan with an extended cabin producing more space to the same platform.

Now, to keep my opinion SEPARATE from the logical portion of the discussion: hatches/wagons/any car with a huge sloped back (looks like a fat person) is fugly to me.

Normal cars are for people and grocery transporting and for good gas mileage. Blending purposes too much results in stupid crap like the honda crosstour and hatchbacks , and funny you should mention "more evolved" and forget commas everywhere.

It would be hilarious if they built it and you didn't buy it because it only had 245HP, or the doors weren't quite long enough, or some other nit-picky reason.

Traditional definitions do not really matter. Now, the difference between a wagon and hatchback is typically whatever the manufacturer feels like naming it. And hatchbacks/wagons create more usable space than trunks even if the actual cargo space numbers don't show it.

Blending purposes produces awesome cars, like the WRX and STI wagon. Trying to make things look cool when there is no functional purpose behind it is what produces stupid crap, like the Honda Crosstour and nearly every CUV and SUV ever conceived.

As long as Americans over the age of 12 prefer form over function, and their idea of form is just brainwashing from media and marketing, hatchbacks and wagons are going to struggle here.

I wouldn't put too much stock into that chop. You can see that whoever did the drawing never even bothered to lengthen the doors. LOL good luck trying to access the rear seats with those doors.

Very true, but what about people who actually don't want any space extra to waste? It just adds bulk to the car for someone like me and is also not as conducive to performance. it's not about optimizing my usable space, since I literally don't do anything but drive my car to work and pick up my $50 worth of groceries every 2 weeks (about 6 bags). I'd rather have good looks. Then again, my life has never and will never be about practicality. I tend to lean towards extremes in one direction or another, picking what I like and sacrificing everything else that I don't really care about or think I need...

i'm over the age of 12, and thus can afford to own both a sedan and a truck, which can haul much more then any fwd blended car could ever dream of

What are you talking about? So you can buy two cars instead of one? Some people will never need two vehicles much less a truck that can haul whatever. Hatches and wagons offer versatility that is multifunctional. My hatch has served me well and provided loading capacity that would be more difficult to do in a sedan. Sure there are compromises and won't appeal to everyone but it fits many lifestyles. It has nothing to do being a U.S. American.

I just hope this 6 coupe ends up with 2 doors. Ze Germans have really screwed that simple concept up.

Also, regarding sedan vs. hatch/wagon:

The moment I realized there is some strange sedan disease amongst Americans was when my one buddy bought his first new car a while ago. He's into biking, climbing, hunting - you name the outdoorsy BS. He had a wrangler and was looking for something new under $20k.

The Versa just came out. He liked it, traded the Jeep in. I said "nice, the hatch will be perfect for hauling your stuff." "Hatch!?!? Ew no, that's lame, I got the sedan." It made no sense, It's a disease.

Why would you even need or want a truck? According to some others in this thread, a hatchback has every bit the functionality of a truck, yet drives like a sports car, and gets twice the mileage. Oh, and did I mention its the best looking? That's why every U.S. American loves them.

You're thinking of an El Camino otherwise known as a ute and they are extremely popular.

The new Mazda6 is sexy. I hope Mazda can build itself back up again. The new styling is very nice.
