Don't get me wrong, I really like the BRZ, and it's a bunch more practical than an MR2, so I see why Toyobaru went that direction. I do think they missed the boat a bit on layout, it's too front heavy.
You can't overfill a frunk like you can a trunk.

Yes, the Boxster & Cayman are downright practical cars.

Overfill the trunk, huh? I'm getting a mental image of a Cayman with half a bicycle sticking out the back with a red bandanna tied to the handlebars.

None of these cars are going to be truly practical. If we Americans had any sense we'd be willing to buy cars like the 1-series hatch or the old Z3 based M-coupe. I know plenty of us around here drool over them, but the population in general couldn't care less.

Side note - a friend of mine has a C5. He's 6'2 and his road bike fits in the back, just take the front wheel off. It's hilarious to watch him show up at a group ride.

C5/C6 = station wagon of sports cars, there is so much room in the back with the traverse leaf spring.

I somehow figured out how to fit an electrical welder in the trunk of my 911.

In other news, first world problems, having to take things out of bags and re-arrange the layout to fit them in a frunk

The Cayman was my favorite car at the LA Auto Show. It looks fantastic now.

^ It does look nice, but I'm just not digging that rear end. The Boxter pulls it off better.

I say again; And?

What car manufacturer on earth doesn't have cheaper models with smaller engines "on purpose", to protect the more expensive lines? No-one complains that a base Corvette comes with a smaller, "de-tuned" LS3 instead of the ZR1's LS9. Or that the top Camaro mill is only a 560-hp de-tuned "LSA" version of the 640-hp LS9.

Every company designs their cars so that the more expensive models have "value added". Why people think Porsche should be magically exempt from this, I don't understand.

With the Corvette example, you're comparing trim levels. Obviously the base Corvette is not going to get the same engine as the six-figure ZR1. With the Camaro getting a detuned variant of the LS9, it has different hardware, like the supercharger is different from what I remember, rather than Chevy giving it pretty much the same engine but a less aggressive tune, which is the case with Porsche, unless I'm mistaken. They even did it between the Boxter and Cayman models, where the Cayman has a tiny edge in output to still place it "above" the Boxter, even if it's only by a slight margin. Again, it's not really a difference in hardware, just the tune (literally de-tuned only, as opposed to being given lesser parts).

There's no incentive to releasing your top end product if your cheaper product is selling just fine. Right now the Cayman and Boxster sell well enough that there's no need to do anything about the power.

Giving it more power entails more costs of components, warranty fixes, etc. Until someone starts giving Porsche a run for their money in that segment, I don't see it happening. But I guarantee that if it ever happened you'd see a Cayman GT3 tomorrow, although a bit dusty because it's been ready to go since 2002.

Yeah, that's true, and another angle that didn't cross my mind. Even though the Boxster and Cayman would certainly utilize more power, it's not currently threatened by anything else on the market due to that.

YTD, Porsche sold 2971 Caymans/Boxsters and almost 14,000 Cayenne SUVs.

That doesn't mean it's not "selling just fine," it's just not outselling their profitable platform meant for mass consumption (relative to the rest of their lineup), which isn't what manticus was saying.

I normally preferred the Cayman, but the updates have my liking the Boxter better. They both look nice, but the Boxster is SEXY! I guess that's why it's a chicks car, lol.

Default 2014 Porsche Cayman promo video hits the web

Don't know how we missed this, but you don't have to play around with the 2014 Porsche Cayman configurator to see the new coupe in action; Porsche has given us more than two beautiful minutes of Cayman footage to enjoy.

The partners in the on-screen tango are the 275-horsepower base Cayman and the 325-hp Cayman S. If you like to keep track of such things, the former starts at $52,600, the latter at $63,800, plus $950 destination for each. Watching a video like the one below, however, is free.

i want one, but it's really $78k when you get the S with basics. Till the economy looks trustworthy this is my Porsche. I bet you can knock $10 to $15k off a 2012 S now,

Basically doing the same thing here, except I can't actually afford a new Cayman S.

Buy the BRZ and put $30k into gold, Might pop and become $100k in 2-3 years.
The BRZ drives like a 80s Porsche 911 but has a much better shifter and handles better, more comfortable too
