Have cat or no cat?
I m going to get the downpipe and exhaust soon. All 3"
I was wondering, if the car is better of having a cat or no cat? I know a place that will do a custom exhaust and downpipe for my wrx, however, they say they will take out the main cat and leave the 2 other cats in. They do so because they believe if all cats are out, then it will cause the engine to go into the safe mode However, isn't turbo cars is better off with no cats at all?? So plz can anyone tell me which one is the best way to do it??

Ok, call me a weenie (just kidding, you don't have to)
But am I the only one that sees there being an issue with removing the cats ? I guess you folks don't have emmissions testing where you are, but if anybody would get caught with out them it would be me, that is exactly why I won't touch the buggers. If I get any kind of exhaust, it would have to be one with cats on it, or a cat back only. I don't know of what it would do to the engine, but if you are running some heavy mods and no cat and get pulled over around here, I think that the fine can get quite hefty if you don't have your cats on. Heck, i would love to run a car with no emmissions on it and get all the mileage and power, but for my needs right now 227 hp is quite enough. /gets off soapbox |

Well if you're looking for power, no cats every single time. I'm removing all 3 of mine. It made a huge difference in drivability on all my cars thus far and there are ways to fool your O2 sensor so that your ecu is happy. I am working on a downpipe with such a device. I currently produce them for Hondas but I do want a downpipe badly. One without any pesky kittens of course. BTW, many turbo cars pass without any cats. You'd be surprised.

I'm going the single high flow, no up and no down cats, route. I would be willing to bet, with the car warmed properly, it will pass California emissions. SLR- |
