The drain plug is right at the Y of the header, where the driver and passenger side manifolds come together. It's a big arse bolt, hard to miss. I recommend draining the tranny while the exhaust is fully cooled so you can wrap a plastic bag or something like that around that Y section. If you don't, you will get gear oil on the exhaust, and it'll stink as it cooks off the next few times you drive the car.
There is no fill "plug", you just fill it through the dipstick hole (which is just behind the engine on top of the tranny, passenger side). You'll probably need one of those funnels with the long, flexible hose coming off the bottom, and you may need to remove the air box to get good access to it. Pat Olsen '97 Legacy 2.5GT sedan |

full plug?
is there a bolt on the tranny of an 00 RS to unscrew that lets you know how much gear oil to put in? i've worked on other transmissions where this is the case. the oil spills out of this hole which is located a few inches above the drain plug. if not, about how much gear oil should it take? thanks for the help..

no there is not. You fill through the dipstick hole Like Pat explained. When you feel your getting close to the correct amount you remove the funnel and check it with the dipstick.
