Still can't wipe the off. Thanks for offering me a Co-drive Sunday. With the ST Civic down, my WRX down, and 3.5 hours of sleep you're car took my weekend and turned it into , even though we got rained out on our last 2 runs and had to clean up in a t-storm.

The car's just freaking amazing If you ever need a tire warmer, I'm totally there.

Anytime. I'm glad it smacked the apathy a way......

The rain semi- me. I did kinda chuckle at the results though. I knew your clean run was a good time for the books.

I build fun stuff...............

I was pretty surprised by the results, I knew that run was a good one, but....

Once I remembered to drive smooth (like the civc) and modulate power (like it was the DSM) it was really fast. I think I could have shaved more off braking a little later and harder, and I was still late feeding in power most places from my FWD habits. Given 2 more dry runs I might have improved my time, or made an ass of myself, or both. Probably both.

Well I went to Lincoln, got sideways

and walked away with 20 points due mostly to circumstance. Sometimes you win by showing up.

Kinda drove there to run against a car that, much to my shagrin, had a clutch issue show up at practice starts.

So Mark had to stand on his 2 runs Sat morning as it was on the trailer Sat afternoon. Even giving up a second at the lights and being pushed into staging his times stood until Sunday morning, and then was only beat by a tenth. Pretty f'n cool I think.

Which left me with a dilema. Run fast or coast? I tried for index, didn't work out. I didn't drive stellar anyways. With a wide open course I actually think I was outgunned a bit in the HP war. The courses were fast and fun, minimum cones and a lot of room to pick your line.

Notes on the car......e-85 is fickle.
Sat added more E brought it from 64%, where it was tuned, to 72% Apparently there was quite a bit of gas in the tank even though I drained it.. Car ran like ****, wouldn't idle, and power was down. I needed a 3rd foot to stage, keeping it running sucked. Saturday night Jason says "put some of my gas in it." Brilliant!

Did that Sunday morning...it was fun shaking the car and watching the gauge drop, adding more, shaking the car... Got it mixed. It idled and ran like a champ for Sunday morning runs.

I also raised the rear a bit and put back in the rebound, in the rear, I took out last year at Nationals. The bucking seemed to be a non-issue but Lincoln's flat. Car felt good though. Just needs more power.

After Sunday morning I eneded up in 1st by 1.7 and top qualifier by more luck and coincidence.

Now I wait around for the challenge. Man I want to win a challenge..........1st run .455 RL. Fail. Luck ran out.

So although it was a fun weekend of wheel bearings on the truck going, 6 miles from the event site. Hanging with friends. Getting lucky and winning. I never did get to see where the car is to the other fastest car.

Guess I have to drive to Blytheville.......I need another challenge in my life.

See you on course.

The bucking is the rear tires hitting the fenders. I need to cut them. Raising helped but I'd rather cut at somepoint.

Let's see Blytheville.......not much to SEE in blytheville.

Fri: idk we rolled in ~ 12-1
2:00 pm I'm changing the pads and rotors on the excursion. Telling myself I have to do this in case something goes wrong..........

3:30 pm Practice starts......
and 1,2,3 kaboom. 1st gear goes out. wait I haz a spare....car's to hot. Let's eat.
5:30 transmission swap begins, with the help of Bryan Meyer.
8:00 car's rolling through paddock and I'm drinking beer!

Sat morn:
Really, really nervous about the car. No LC for the morning. Light as possible launches and just see if it holds together. Hilary ran first so I just wanted to get at least a couple runs in.........

On my runs the car was kinda spurting on the 1st to 2nd shift but idk soooo much paranoia. It did feel down on power though.

We made through Saturday morning 8 launches down 16 to go.

I was in 3rd, Hil was in 6th

Sat: afternoon

So I opened the hood to check fluids and realized I didn't reconnect the vacuum line to the BOV. Hmmmm could this be the power issue. Fat, rich pig trying to reverse the turbo? Hooked it up. This is what happens when I'm in charge.

Asked Hilary to take her 1st 2 launches easy, if it held together go off of the LC. It did.

Took my runs, car felt awesome. I would always want more powah but the delivery and availability is kind of astonishing. I was doing 1.6xx 60's consistently. There was a lot of grip at the line but the car was normally 1.8-1.7 so idk. Maybe the boxes were back a hair.

I dropped around 3 seconds total and moved to 1st. Lol..... On raw though it would be close. Gonna come down to Sunday Morning.

16 launches down at least 8 to go........

Sun morning:
Stikar set!
Car made it through Hil's runs. Yayyy
I managed to drop time and ended up with ~ a .600 margin. Little less than the 60'

So I'm in impound and Hilary comes over and says the Meridith's car is borked and Jen's gonna lose her runs. F that! I ran over and offered Jen the car, said it's your decision, car's in impound.

She took the offer, got her last for runs, and had fun. Awesome! In the back of my head I was kinda like I may need those launches for the challenge but whatever, it's fixable.

Challenge
Brian Johns Rx7 first. He red lit 2nd run. He had to run off of Strelniks dial in anyways.

Pull back in. Great. Another black RX7 Got outdriven round 2 by ~ .600 total. I'll take it.

Hil ended up 6th in L2 in some pretty tall cotton which was great. Maybe .750 a side would've moved her up. Very acheivable.

Probably one of the best events I've had in quite awhile.

Oh and yes. I got sidewayz there too.

See you in DC!

ps: thread title change to "inner musings of an insane person" sound about right?

DC pro:

First big thanks to Anrdrewtech for helping out on the way down friday. I stopped by and Andrew provided me with the correct mainshaft for the blown box, stacked it, and gave us directions to an awesome Peruvian diner. I sealed the box up in paddock Friday night and didn't need it!

Thanks again!

Well I don't think there are any sideways pics...but I probably got sideways.

DC seemed to be a bit about attrition, lot's of cars breaking including mine.

On saturday the intercooler hose from the TB fell off, the vacuum line from the boost solenoid blew off the turbo, and the vacuum line to the MAP sensor came off. I attribute some of that to the jump on the left course.

After Billy came in from his first run I asked "How was that? " , in regards to the bump, He says "I think something broke in the right front." lol Just that damn koni loose in the tube again.

Hilary actually got pushed off on her 2nd set of afternoon runs cause of the massive TB vacuum leak.

Alot of this is why Billy and I were off pace Saturday. We were all basically driving a 140hp **** box Saturday.

Got it all sorted for Sunday morning only to have the turbo really go out on Billy on his first challenge round.

By the time I took mine it wouldn't even hold full throttle...it's definetly not a 2 stroke.

In the end car went 1,2 in open and got 3rd in L2.

Oh and one more thing if I hear one more disparaging word to co-drivers about how, why, or when my car breaks.....more than the car may get broken at the event.

**** breaks..no one's fault.

I ordered a rebuild kit for the turboz......never done it. We'll see how it goes. I'm happy with the event..found some weakness I can address.

Well, if you can swap a transmission in two hours in a parking lot, I'm sure you can do a turbo rebuild in at least 30 minutes...right?

Congrats to you, Billy, and Hillary on great finishes, despite the issues. I only wish I had been there to watch.

Wow I actually did well for once? Holy crap! :-P

The car sucked this weekend.. No offense Greg but you know it wasn't up to par with how it normally is.

Nevertheless the weekend ended well. It's a bummer I didn't get all 12 runs but hey what can ya do?

In regards to what Greg said about the comments said to the codrivers about **** breaking.. It really does get old.. When I get pushed somewhere and get out of the car I'm already upset/bummed/feel horrible about the car breaking on me (again!). It isn't going to make me feel better when someone says "What did you break?" "What did you break this time?" or flat out implying I shouldn't be in the car and a more "adequate" driver should be in the car.

I think after my second run on Saturday afternoon I said "The car sucks Greg it's broken" He said finish your runs then next thing he knows I'm getting off course and I say "I told you so!"

So, you have problems driving 140HP crapboxes eh? Mine doesn't do too shabby for what it is!!!!! Shut up and DRIVE ya hack!!!

With regards to codrivers and breaking stuff, I completely agree. It's the last thing you wanna hear when something happens, no matter who was in the car when it happens. Isn't it AWESOME to be on the pointy end of development?

Keep up the good work, man!

In regards to the weight of the car and speed of the class? Yes. I found it amusing to have the car in the posistions it was at the end of Saturday. It also made me realize why I couldn't match Billy's Saturday morning times. no boostorz

Exactly. I put alot of hard runs on the car, and perhaps, ask more of it then I need to. I don't think some people understand (even though this "sport" is laughable) the level of commitment it takes to constantly flush out weakness.

My motives and choices are my own. I don't have to make different ones. I hate the path of least resistance!

Thanks Jay..............between my car, work assignments, etc, I feel bad for doing no more than lending tools to assist with your ride.
