My flipkey mod resulted in me driving this for 2 weeks and my car needing a tow and about $2000 in repairs.

Okay, I was just posting in the thread to let you know I'm sending an email. I know how busy you must be so I wanted to make sure you didn't miss my contacting you. I've had a less than perfect experience resulting in the direct usage of this key. I wanted to contact you behind the scenes as to not "crap" on your thread. Clearer now?

Instead of swapping an already working transponder into a flip shell, you had a third party locksmith attempt to program a new transponder and it bricked your car (and the existing keys). If anyone else really wants to go the route of new transponder(s) then I would highly suggest having the programming be done by the dealer. The easier method is just to convert one of your keys by swapping the transponder. |

Yes, by no means am I saying this mod is bad. At this point Im just laughing at myself.
Subaru will be providing me with the extra key I need to swap into a flip shell. The reason I went with the new key route in the first place is I needed another key to begin with. |

I am very sorry you are having issues. I am 99% certain the transponder has come loose in the flip shell. How did you secure it in place? You should be able to open it up and put it back in the slot and it will work. Please let me know what you find. |

FWIW, when I bought my car the salesman told me the valet key was only good for so many starts then it won't work anymore. Is this not true? Sounds like what happened to SpicyPeaNut.

Interesting. I've never heard that but you never know.
Xluben, I haven't opened it up yet but if the oem chip got loose inside the flip key housing and changed positions, would it cause the car's security system to not allow it to start?I can't imagine it would but stranger things have happened. |

No, that is not true that it only works a certain number of times.
Not being able to start the car is the entire point of the transponder chip. The very first one I made I didn't glue and it did the same thing after a couple weeks. |

Guys, just follow the simple instructions in the first 3 posts, which includes using the transponder chip from one of your current keys and making sure to properly glue the chip in place and you will have absolutely no issues. |

Once I opened up the flip shell, it appeared that the transponder made its way out of its home and was resting on the side of the shell. I don't understand how that could have even happened but maybe I'll have to use hot glue next time (instead of the generic glue I had in the garage). I put the transponder back in its place and tried starting the car. Started right up. I meant no disrespect by posting out in the open in your thread, and I appreciate the quick feedback. |

How's it make no sense? You realize it's 2014 right? What, it's not possible to program a transponder to only send/receive x number of times?
I asked a question, I got an answer. It was over and done without you needing to come in a throw your opinion around. |

I apologize. Didn't mean to come off as rude, though I obviously did. I must be getting old. I get grumpy past 9pm.
