Default 2011 WRX Bi-Xenon Retrofit

When I was looking for the car, I couldn't find a silver Limited 5 door anywhere so I ended up with a Premium without the HID's. I had retrofitted another car in the past with TSX projectors so I went ahead and planned on retrofitting this car as soon as I got it.

Luckily, The Retrofit Source makes a complete plug and play HID retrofit specifically for the WRX. The kit included.

  • Morimoto Bi-Xenon Mini Projectors
  • Morimoto 4300k Capsules
  • OEM Subaru Ballasts
  • Wiring Harness (including relays to turn on bi-xenon hi-beams)
  • Mounting brackets

You can find it here.

WRX Retrofit Kit

The car apart to remove the headlights

The projectors installed and on. I also decided to remove the orange reflector in the housing and install some silver bulbs that burn orange.

Blue flicker at the cutoff

Aligning the lamps

Bi-xenon hi-beams (regular hi-beams stay on as well)

Overall I am incredibly happy with the system especially given the ease of install once you get the headlights open given the included brackets. There was zero fabrication, just bolt up and go.

In the little research I have done others have changed their headlight housings to STI housings. You are saying that you got great results without doing this thought, right?

Thank you for not putting in a cheap HID kit!

Edit: at this point, halogen high beams become somewhat useless, no?

Wow! Looks real good! Too bad I'll have to wait for my lease to be completed so I can install those.

Wow, that's awesome. I'm assuming this will work for the 2.5i as well since it has the same headlight. Totally doing this.

You can buy a used pair if headlamps and place those on when you return the car.

Pretty much. You tap into the high beams for the bi-xenon wiring...so you might as well leave them hooked up anyway.

If you do some searching around online...you can find a coupon code to bring the price down some.

The main reason people are switching to STI housings is to get the HID projector. I took apart the WRX headlight and replaced the stock halogen projector with a HID projector.

You can do it either way. Putting an eBay HID kit in your halogen projectors is what you want to stay away from. Putting those in halogen reflector housings is even worse...

Nice work, I like how it all came out. Are those chrome bulbs as bright as the stock ambers?

I myself did the retro fit with an extra setof headlight housings (i'll have an extra set now). Just gotta wait till I get off work then put them in and get them aligned. Been looking forward to this all week.

They seem to be.

A LED setup on that corner would be the ideal situation, but I didn't want to go to the trouble of installing relays to get them to work correctly. This was an easy solution that looks good enough.

I looked into the LED setup and felt the same way.

How did you tap into the high beam wires? Did you have to strip away some of the insulation or did the provided taps cut right in the wire?

They provided the taps. Basic wiring stuff you can get from any hardware store though. --> http://news.thomasnet.com/fullstory/...ripping-451197

FYI, you don't have to install relays to put in LEDs. Some people opt to replace their stock blinker relay with an electronic blinker relay (takes 5 minutes), or do what I'm doing which is install two 3 ohm 50 watt resistors in line with the rear turn signals (one for each side). Takes all of 10 minutes to install the resistors as they use vampire clips. Superlumination.com has them. The resistors are more reliable than the electronic relay. But either route is a fast install. Way less complex than this HID install.

BTW, HID install looks awesome. Thanks for posting this thread. I'm totally going to do this once I get $330.

Op I have a question, Im guessing you could be my only help, TRS really hasnt helped me much. On the wiring, where does this part go connected to, there is only one on the main harness.

Also, Im having a hard time understanding where the projector wires connect for the hi beams;and on the same pic, What connects to what was connected to the halogen lowbeam?.

This is my first retrofit BTW
Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

It looks like the rotational alignment is off on one of your projectors.
