Default FP 71HTA turbo discussion

Have noticed that FP is changing round there turbos again and getting rid of a few choices and adding new

Looking to see if anybody has checked it out or what they have to say about it....

I called FP about it and found out the real deal with this turbo...

The old 68HTA had a 68/68 compressor wheel and the new 71HTA has a 71/68 wheel.

Basically the compressor wheel is bigger now and matches the DSM style 68/71HTA. The only difference is the DSM style is a bigger compressor housing. Not sure of they will offer the bigger housing on the Subaru platform or not.

Let's take a 51 lb/min compressor wheel and pair it with a turbine wheel that isn't suited to much more than 40. Then let's saddle it with a small housing too!!!! This thing gonna sell like hot cakes and perform like... Well who cares what it performs like, we're gonna make a killing!!!!!

I bet it performs better than the old 68HTA and if you could get the bigger compressor housing it would help a great deal. 8cm hotside is plenty for out cars...

With a Properly sized wheel? You bet it is. Doesn't matter how much the compressor will flow if the hot side can't let it get back out.

Edit: remember how the td05 fp greens performed? No? Cuz there where none. Why? Cuz it would have been a mistake. And now this wheel flows MORE air than a green and it's ok because it'll fit in the compressor housing? Sorry, I don't buy it for a second.

Decent turbo, tuned a couple of them. I would recommend staying away from FP as their customer service has burned a couple of my customers. Their turbos are decent, just terrible customer service.

Full boost at 4500 feet 3600rpms (2.5l 3rd 5speed) 91oct, 340hp mustang
Full boost at 4500 feet 3450rpms (2.5l 3rd 5speed) E85, 410hp mustang

turbo is similar to a dom1.5

What do you consider "full boost"?

For a 2.5 it wouldn't be. It seems to be a 2.0 turbo :/

Seems to work fine on my 2.5 (my car is no longer a 2.0L)...check out my dyno graph above. This was the first one of these turbos out of the gate for the Subies (they have been doing this for evos for a while). I will have the build thread up hopefully tonight or tomorrow...sorry it's taken so long.

The car makes a full bar of boost by 3400-3500 rpm and full boost at 3900-4000...on top of that, it made 426 HP at only 22 psi. We ran out of fuel. This turbo is designed to be run at 26-27 PSI, on E85 and Calvin (at Cobb Plano) said that it easily has 470-475 with a bigger injector.

You can doubt it all you want, but the proof is in the dyno graph.

I would say that it looks to perform very similarly to a Blouch 20G XTR or Dom1.5 XTR.

Seems to be a bit closer to the 1.5XTR. I think this thing will ultimately make more power than the 20g will. Wish i hadn't run out of injector so we could have really pushed it.

By the way, if anyone is interested mine does have the flow advancement port.
