Default 08 2.5i Mods

What exactly can we do to the 08 2.5i that won’t void the warranty?

You can do a fair amount, but the safe bet is anything that has a Subaru part number. What are your plans?

The only mods I have right now is tinted windows and factory spoiler. Planning on the sport grille, and sti pinks to start. Not sure on what else I can do without voiding the warrenty so I havnt really planned anything.

That's about it. You can try a DIY front lip, Rally Armor flaps... a shift knob. You can put a spacer in your exhaust to create a small exhaust leak to give your car that Subaru rumble (got that one from a Legacy owner, haven't tried it myself yet)

exhaust leaks are not a good thing ... people have died from carbon monoxide poisoning when they had exhaust leaks.

Just passing on what someone else told me. They are the Leggy owner's words, not mine. I'm just waiting to get a Megan Racing WRX exhaust and a three-inch spacer to link everything up.

get familiar with the Magnuson-Moss warranty act

here's a wiki entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnussen-Moss_Act

essentially it says that for the dealer to deny warranty they have to PROVE that a mod you did to the car directly caused the problem. So mod keeping that in mind. Or mod with things that can be easily removed/taken back to stock for warranty service, if you don't want the hassle from the dealer.

a 3" exhaust will kill the power on a 2.5. and a wrx exhaust bolts up with no spacers, not sure what you mean there. pinks void your suspension warranty too

What little power there is. I imagine 5sp must be quite a bit better than auto though.

So, my gf just got herself an 08 2.5i 5-door Hatchback. I was thinking about adding a short ram intake for her car. Are there any good ones out for this model right now? Any that you guys would recommend? I mainly want it for the extra little sound

Alot of stuff from SPT wont void you warranty if the dealer puts it on, if you want to spend the extra money. Other SPT parts you can do yourself and they wont either.

Also, does anyone know how to get access to the license plate lights/bulbs? I want to switch them out with white LED's

This is for the 08 2.5i hatchback model btw.

It's in the manual that should be in your glove compartment. Basically put your finger in the hole, push the lens towards the left and it will allow you to pull it off. you can use W5W wedge bulb or LED in that same base.

I think those are compatible. There is a number of bulbs with similar wedge bases.

I don't know about my warranty, but I'm about to pick up a stock WRX exhaust for a little different tone, and also for a tip that finally fills out that gigantic cutout in my rear bumper.

And I'm getting it for about the same price as the 2.5i tip cover. So I'm going with an epic win there.

Sweet. I want to hear how it sounds like after you install it. I may just do that as well!

I've heard it done before. It looks good, but a hair louder. IMO, not really worth it unless you want some noise. The one I heard also had a little kick back since the car has to adjust to a little more flow.

I'm doing it because:
a) It's cheap as dirt
b) I'd like a little more noise
c) For God's sake, have you seen the size of the 2.5i exhaust tip compared to the cutout in the bumper?! I'm embarrassed by it, it's so small (yes, I know... that's what SHE said *rolls his eyes*), so this will fill out and balance the rear bumper a bit.
