Gawd almighty!

158mph per GPS? That guy's out of control. I bet it was fun though! Just think, soon we'll have the turbo here, too... With a few mods somebody should be able to break 158. Stock is 143, right?

it always funny to me when I see car chases on TV here (USA) and the reporters are always going nuts about the cars "with speeds approaching 100 mph" like that's fast or something.

In the UK everyone drives FAST, I would regularly drive 100-110 between London and Manchester/Leeds wherever.

This guy was going 158mph - that's fast. Why are high speed chases in the USA so slow?

I think it's probably because the cars are so crappy (they always steal Buicks or Oldsmobiles for some reason) and drivers here have no experience at high speed.

Thumbs up

yeah, you can usually get away with about 110 without facing too much heat from the bill there, though 100 is where they get pissy on you.

I'd love to have been driving that car doing the quoted 158! Take my UK license away just like that!!! I think I'd just hand over my US license instead

What's a Senator, and why was it wasting gas trying to catch a P1?

The moral of this story is:
Never stop to pee unless you also need to stop for gas.

Cool

The Vauxhall (GM owned) Senator is one of the UK police's traffic cars (3.0L V8 I think), I got stopped by one doing 145 on the Fireblade I owned before I moved here and settled down with my RS2.5 (The guy let me off!)

It's not a slow car, but a little on the heavy side (a bit like the US traffic cars) so it takes a little time to get up to speed. Top end is around 150.

A year or so back, they decided 100+ was the automatic ban from driving point. So the motorways see plenty of traffic doing 85 - 90, but rarely do you see a car doing 100+

I've gotta say, if you're doing 150mph, you know exactly what you're doing, and I dunno about you guys, but if I'm coming up on a model of car I know the cops use at that speed (regardless off the colour) I'd back off a bit.

Throw the book at him (and give me the P1) he's too stupid to own a car that fast.
