Contrast is crap. White balance or whatever?

<--- Knows next to nothing about photography.

looks ok.

always bracket your exposures. when I'm going for a good picture, I try to take at least 3 shots at different exposure levels. you can have the camera do this, it is called bracketing. those pictures you took are extremely hard to get a good exposure on. you will at least need photoshopping two images together to get even exposures, or use a graduated ND filter.

I used graduated ND filters on these shots:

ahh soo...but doing bracketing I could use diff parts of each image and superimpose them to get the same, if not a better, effect.

yeah?

...also, how do I make something like that area look as good in a photo as it does in reality...it's not just 1 thing to focus on, it's the whole place ya know.

you'll need a tripod, of course, and read this:

Aperture. A small aperture will keep everything in focus. You were probably autofocusing on the center object.

yep, and use the widest setting on your lens. this will give you the largest depth of field, along with the aperture setting like retsyn said.

Yep those pictures look good but, not real. I doesn't seem like it would look the same if I was standing there.

you chose the wrong time of day to shoot that.
lighting is bad, and colors are there just to exist..

also, subjectivly, i would want to ground the water..
if you start out looking over water with no base in the foreground you are implying that you want to suspend the viewer in a moment...
no ground = etherical moment...
so right off the bat i'm looking for something amazing to focus on, and there is just a dark placid, park where i might have a bag of fast food on break from a seminar...
