Question Can't decide (16x7,205/50,16) or(16x8, 225/45/16)

Hello
As dumb as this question is:

I can't decide between (16x7 (MY99 OEM) ,205/50,16 (Falken 451) or
(16x8 Rota Slipstream) , 225/45/16 (Falken 451)

These will be on My 02rs (not a lot of power). I know both these sizes will alter my speedo, which is fine. I'll be installing a Koni/ Prodrive combination later this year. So it look that weird until then (huge wheel gaps). Other than swaybars there are no other Mods to the suspension. Loading should be fine since I have run the 205/50/16 before then I 225/50/16 which feels heavy and slow.

There I think I covered all the usual comments and replies.

Is there an advantage in traction between the two sizes?
Handling other than the mono rail effect in the 225 size..
Used for canyon runs and commuting. I want to try an affordable sport setup this time.
Talk amongst yourselfs.

Any input would be appreachated (sp)

the 225/50-16 would fit just fine on the 16x7

You probably won't notice the difference between the two sizes unless you're at the absolute limit of traction. The 205 will fell a little more lively and responsive while the 225 will feel a little sluggish at first then take a set and hold....and hold......

Thanks Storm, that is the kind of info I am looking for.

I have already used the 225/50/ 16 tire size (stated in post). I like the look but it feels sluggish because the 2.5rs doesn't have the umph to "push" this size of tire. So I am think the under gearing of the 45 aspect will help.

16x8 w/ 225/45-16 would be very good.

Your car will look funny even when you lower it as then you'll be back to about stock wheel gaps since youre tires are smaller.

Would really feel more peppy with that gearing reduction. Would be nice!

225/50/15?

Wow thats different. What wheels will you be running?

I am now thinking, as a means of saving some money, I should stick with my 16x7 rims and mount the 225/45/16's on them. 7" is the min. mounting width according the falken so it safe to do so.

Any opinions for or against?
I will be loosing an inch of ground clearence right? Or is it a half inch?
