Default Will one cat WRX pass Ohio e-check?

I'm thinking about taking the up-pipe cat off, maybe one other as well (getting down to one convertor), but I wasn't sure if I'd pass Ohio's e-check. Anyone have any experience with this?

Many people have stated that the WRX will pass emissions with the removal of the pre-turbo cat. I dont know about the other one however.

Visually, they just take one of those mirrors and run it under the car.

Atleast, that's what they did the last time I got E-checked back home.

No way they would find the missing cat on the uppipe.

A crafty e-check employee would reconize one missing cat on the exhaust side.

In Ohio it's illigal to remove a working cat period. Even if you were to replace it will a high flow type. If they start asking questions then just say you had a miss-fire and gas burned up the cat, and you had to replace it.

I wouldn't bet on your chances with the sniffer test. E-check sux!

When did they start 'e-check'?

I'm originally from NW Ohio and I'm planning on moving back soon. We've never had any sort of inspection that I know of in the Toledo area. Is this just for the bigger cities like Columbus, Cleveland, and Cincy only? We have emmissions sniffer tests in Houston, specifically Harris County, but none in the surrounding counties.

I'll trade you. I've been wanting to move to Texas for a while.

When you get here make sure you look me up. We have a group of Subaru owners here. Just post in the Mid-west forum, and we'll find you.

I know they do the sniffer test in Cincy. I have to go back every couple of years and get it done to renew my reg.

Most of Ohio does NOT do E-Check. Hopefully, from things I've heard, it's going to get suspended in Hamilton County again, soon. Yippeee!!!

As has been stated before, they don't use AWD rollers, so it's just a stationary test. I've been told that most of our cars would pass. From those I've seen that worked at those facilities(well, the Newtown one in Cincinnati, at least), I wouldn't worry about the visual inspection. They didn't seem too well educated in the car industry, to me.

I didn't know it was going to be suspended (yeah, I've been under a rock). Any ideas on the timeframe? I really don't want my soon-to-be-purchased WRX to be manhandled by those apes...

I have no idea when. It's not been publicly discussed. Basically, I heard something I wasn't supposed to

I've asked to be kept in the loop, but we'll see how that goes. Hopefully, it'll go the way of the dodo bird. However, it'll be a while. I'm sure there will be some open discussion in the media well before it happens.

edit - also, this was just for Hamilton County, not the rest of Ohio(afaik).
