Default Acura RLX Spy Shots Surface Sans Camo

Quote:
Honda/Acura fansite Temple of VTEC has a series of spy photos of the Acura RLX taken in China, revealing the car’s interior details, and one lone exterior shot.

As you can see, the car is non-descript in that special Acura sort of way The faux-BMW Hoffmeister kink is there at the rear window, while the front is indistinguishable from the rest of the lineup. The interior looks well finished, but again, there’s little to distinguish it from the rest of the pack. Tomorrow, we’ll get a proper look at the RLX when it’s unveiled at the L.A. Auto Show.

Gets a solid "meh" from me. I still cannot stand the grille design that Acura has been using.

Indeed. It was the main reason why I wouldn't go back to Acura after I lost my Integra in a crash. I really wanted to - I gave it full consideration when scouting out my options. Too much chrome on the front end makes it look cheap (and not in a good way).

If they fixed the styling, I could be convinced to overlook the overpricing of their cars.

This has mystified me for the past few years. Every time I look at Acura's lineup, that grille design is just a roadblock to liking the cars.

That headlight looks horrific. Of course one projector isn't enough for sufficient lighting so they had to add four more.

So what's the difference between this and the TL or RL?

The RLX will replace the RL. The RLX has a full LED headlamps thus a different reflector configuration.

Default cura to offer four-wheel steering on RLX flagship Read more: http://www.autonews.com

LOS ANGELES -- Acura's redesigned RLX flagship sedan will come with an advanced four-wheel steering system and an optional hybrid powertrain when it arrives in early 2013.
The 2014 RLX will replace the RL, which is phasing out as a 2012 model. The RLX will feature Honda Motor's proprietary Precision All-Wheel Steering system, which allows the rear wheels to have independent toe control during cornering.
The rear wheels can have their toe-in angles adjusted by electronic actuators that "respond instantaneously to the will of the driver," said Jeff Conrad, Acura general manager, at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
The base RLX features a 310-hp, direct-injection V-6 engine connected to a six-speed transmission. An optional Sport Hybrid All-Wheel Drive system, paired with a seven-speed, dual-clutch transmission, generates an output of 370 hp.

The base engine gets 20 city/31 highway mpg. With a 30/30 mpg rating, the hybrid model delivers "V-8 acceleration with four-cylinder fuel economy," Conrad said.
U.S. sales of the RL have slumped 65 percent this year to 350 units, and Acura is counting on the redesigned model to raise its prospects in a luxury-sedan market dominated by the BMW 5 series, Cadillac CTS, Mercedes-Benz E class and Audi A6.
Dimensionally, the RLX carries the same overall length as the outgoing RL, but it has a 2-inch longer wheelbase and is nearly 2 inches wider. Nearly all that extra room went into the rear seat; the current model's cramped space there was a frequent complaint.
Connectivity features on the RLX include a touch-screen interface for e-mail; text messaging and contacts, as well as integration of HD radio; Pandora Internet radio; and the Aha Radio interface via Bluetooth. Real-time traffic reporting will include surface streets as well as freeways.
Both models of the RLX, conventional and hybrid, feature a double-wishbone front suspension and a multilink rear suspension with amplitude reactive dampers at all four corners. Safety features include collision warning, lane-departure warning, front knee airbags, rearview camera, stolen-vehicle tracking and airbag deployment communications.
Connectivity features include a touch-screen interface for e-mail; text messaging and contacts, as well as integration of HD radio; Pandora Internet radio; and the Aha Radio interface via Bluetooth. Real-time traffic reporting will include surface streets as well as freeways.
Despite the additional technology, the new RLX is 275 pounds lighter than its predecessor.
The base RLX goes on sale in the spring, with the hybrid arriving later in the year. Pricing for both models will be released closer to their on-sale date.

AWD + 4 wheel steering.

What's the worst that can happen?

2014 Acura RLX debuts in production form, gets EPA-rated 24 mpg combined

Here it is – the 2014 Acura RLX in full production form. The model made its debut at the 2012 LA Auto Show and will go on sale in the U.S. in the spring of 2013. The 2014 Acura RLX will be available in five grades – the well-equipped RLX, the RLX with Navigation, the feature-packed RLX with Technology package, the RLX with Krell Audio package, and the top-of-the-line RLX with Advance package.
The 2014 RLX uses an all-new direct-injection engine, lightweight body structure, and the first-ever application of Acura Precision All-Wheel Steer – a system that the company says delivers a new and dynamic driving experience. The model also introduces the next-generation AcuraLink cloud-based connected car system.
“The 2014 Acura RLX heralds the introduction of a number of new signature Acura technologies that provide the driver a feeling of connection to the product, to the road, and to the world from the very moment they enter the vehicle,” said Jeff Conrad, vice president and general manager of Acura Sales. “The RLX embodies the Acura commitment to create vehicles with outstanding handling that truly respond to the will of the driver.”
Power for the 2014 Acura RLX comes from a 3.5 liter direct-injected V6 making 310-hp and 272 lb-ft of torque. Mated to a reengineered Sequential SportShift 6-speed automatic transmission, the 2014 RLX gets an EPA estimated 20/31/24 mpg (city/highway/combined).

AVANTI R5 - thanks for posting the show pics

Based upon the specs & the looks: I think it's a worthy replacement to the RL that was Waaaaaaaaaaaay over due.

Will it set the world on fire? Who knows
-The German competition is very compelling.

Man that is really disappointing looking Acura. Looks like a Lincoln that was butt raped by a Subaru Legacy. Good job at remaining the "meh" kings of the luxury world. I don't think Acura's styling will ever come back around.

I hate how thin the steering wheels on some of these upscale luxury brands are. <END RANT>

side profile reminds me of a buick lacrosse.

i commend them on the decent mpg.

because the engine is transversely mounted, no option for V8; needs turbo to compete with the big boys.

just like the current gen, this looks to be heavily based on the accord. this is basically the new accord with AWD and nicer interior.
