Sorry to revive a dead thread, but I'm posting a video that does a little more of a comparison from stock (with intake), to having the mod. Listen to the video if your interested in hearing what it sounds like, not because you want to be a troll.

Seriously, buying a 30-40K car and then doing something as dumb as this is appalling. If you really think this sounds good, why didn't you guys just buy a civic and get a dam fart can... Bought this expensive a car and can't even afford a $300 Nameless Axleback? (Which I have and for the record is probably the best sounding exhaust EVAR)

Makes me ashamed sometimes knowing what other kids have done to their WRX's and that I am part of that community.. Wish people had more sense: function > form ALWAYS.

This is both an amazing kludge job as well as a great deal of entertainment.

If the OP is happy, who cares?

OP here again and still happy Thinking of adding back a washer or two to open up the growl a bit.

I just dumped over $1k in suspension (White Line Sways, Koni inserts, Epic Springs), and just got done with a narly awesome vacation to Colorado (I was in Suby heaven ) so I'm not willing nor ready to dump $$$ into a noise maker.

Im lost. Why are people talking about exhaust fumes and such? Isn't this mod done in the area of the rear wheels? The two cats are in our DP if I am not mistaken. If I did this mod, I would need to do it for both sides right?

Is that why there is an 8-10wtq gain from the Nameless axle back? Just a noise maker?

As much as you try to justify to yourself, this mod is 100% rice. How do you even keep a straight face when people ask which exhaust your have, when you have to say "stock, with a fat exhaust leak, lulz."

I would be really embarrassed to be such a cheapskate if I were you

Axelbacks don't give you any hp... I don't think its a horrible mod.. Sure its a very cheap and "riced" mod, but what if you don't have 400 for the nameless and you wanna get some boxer sound?
The only way I would be against this mod is if there were repercussions. Are they any besides those who think the exhaust smell would be there but its not? There doesn't seem to be anything that the extra heat would damage. Is there any loss in power? If you know, please tell me. I wanna do this rice job bc I can't afford an exhaust atm. I will get the q300 later down the road

But I do have to agree with the sentiment that the subie community has changed. When I had my 05 wrx, there weren't nearly as many kids running around with bright pink or green wheels on their hella flush subies. It was all about doing it clean and right.
this is 100% wrong. go take ur catback off and tell me it feels the same and not like **** at low rpms.

Honestly at this point just take your mufflers completely off, the heat will begin to create small holes in the fender liners (if you take it up a large grade for an extended period of time) otherwise if your not racing it the heat will just flow right out with the rest of the air that passes below the car.

You'll get cool backfire noises too!!!

2011 WRX spark white... or whatever they call the impossible to touch up tricoat white that comes on it

I don't know why people don't go more apesht when people run a catless dp.. I bet there's 100x more CO than what he's doing.

I would also love to know how CO gas would choose to diffuse through metal instead of diffusing into OPEN air

and isn't this at the axleback? this aint nearly as bad a cut out

false, nameless saw decent gains from replacing/removing the muffler/s and then hardly anything from replacing the midpipe. chambered mufflers are much worse for exhaust flow than 2.5" piping. Once you start making serious power full 3" starts to make a huge difference but not so much in the sub 300whp area.

Washers on the other hand probably aren't helping

OP here

I did in fact add on 1 washer to each side. Nice growl, a few more dBs than stock but not as crazy loud as the original 6 washers with the Catless DP, makes it sound a tad aftermarket-ish. Obviously I like it this way cause I've run it this way for a couple months now.

I still wish I had some nicer tips that pushed out to the valance. I might still get the Nameless for visual aesthetics, who knows.

I'll get some YT vids up this weekend.
