Default 182.491mph @ The Texas Mile

I got a chance to test the new motor at arguably one of the funnest race events in the US - The Texas Mile. I've participated in this event since 2007 and like many others that have discover this event, are hooked. In October 2007 I managed 170mph on the stock motor with a Perrin 35R and FMIC with a solid tune from Top Speed and backed that up in March 2008 with a 169mph run.

With the same turbo / FMIC combo and a new motor built by Engine Logics the car ran 182.491mph this past weekend. Those familiar with land speed racing will attest to the amount of power needed to make a 12mph improvement. Hats off to Chris at Engine Logics for a top notch build and Brad for a solid tune. I'll post the speed slip shortly, but here is the in-car video.

The RPM limit was set to 8K and I was shifting around 7200-7500 and believe the RPMs were around 7300 when I crossed the mile marker. We looked at the logs and I probably left a little on the table by not shifting a little higher in the RPM range.

thats sweet! so for tuning reasons what gear do you tune and do you log when your going at it in the mile? just wondering if you have any logs just to see what is it like 100% throttle in all of 6th gear.

I see you have no wing what kind of down force do you have for the car to keep it stable up top?

I logged all but two runs, I even have the two runs made at 50mph (bad TPS and crank trigger threshold issue) lol. Ill see if I can post the 182 run.

As for down force I use a Beatrush front under panel and a carbon fiber rear diffuser. The wing does add rear down force but tends to have the opposite effect on the front. Dropping the front suspension helps if I run with spoiler but then I've added a boat load of drag. IIRC the drag increases as a function of the velocity cubed or something outrageous like that. I remove the mirrors, whipers and speed tape all the seams on the fascia.and pray for a tail wind - which we had Saturday.(very rare this time of year).

182 is moving, ive hit 165 (not on 1/4 or 1/8th mile) in the sti but another 15mph has to make a big difference

i see you just took off not launching the car any reasons why? i would have figured that would help you get up to speed and build boost in 1st gear faster

looks like a lot of fun...awesome run btw!!!

The car made 502 @27 psi on C16 - dyno dynamics dyno. The dyno charts are in the sticky at the top of this forum.

I'd like to break the 190 mph mark. I wouldn't be shocked if I need at least another 75 to 100 HP at the wheels which means a bigger snail and something other than one Walbarrito and probably larger fuel lines. Chris indicated the rails and injectors have more than enough room.

Congrats!! I have been very tempted to bring our race car out and run the mile events. I would like to break 200mph with it.

some taller tires might help you with the MPH, but you're right that 25mph tailwind doesn't happen often.. that probably helped a lot.

You are corrct, It looks highly addictive!
Good job with the drag/wind restriction mods. Thats huge (more than weight reduction) and I have no idea what else you can do to her except make sure she is CLEAN and WAXED like crazy! ANy body prep? I wonder if a diffuser/vortex off the rear window would help with the turbulance in the rear.

Get a BIGGER turbo. the engine will hold up , esp with a great tune and good gas...even if its just for this one event per year. And get some sponsors on that car! haha.

A few of the guys run taller tires I just need to break down and spend the money. The tail wind gave me a few mph because we had a 10mph headwind Sunday and I ran 179.
