New guy here. Traded my 05 LGT for this 02 WRX recently. v7 EJ207, VF22, 6 speed. I'm absolutely loving it so far!! Just trying to track down an intermittent misfire atm. Only happens after boosting it occasionally, then fixes itself after driving for a bit longer. Coming from an EJ255 with a VF40, was OTS "Stage 2" tuned, the 207 is amazing. The VF22 spools hard and surprised the hell out of me lol. Look forward to seeing what other people are running with their 207s!

Ok I need some clarification on head gadkets for a v8 EJ207 block with its AVCS heads. I have been all over this thread and others with lots of mixed info on the matter. Some places say the USDM ej205 gaskets will work/fit others say it's a v8-9 specific head gasket.

Also is there a better then OEM HG to use on this block, fel-pro, cometic, cosworth???

Anyone else have a low idle with their EJ207? My v9 idles at about 500 rpms and feels kind of rough. I would like it to be at 750-800 rpms. I'm going to download the ROM from the ECU to see what the settings are. If the settings are higher then 500 rpms, what could be the issue?

I'm also having a weird little issue with the car revving a couple rpms when shifting after I let off the gas.

If the ROM shows factory idle settings, then the usual suspects are:
- Vacuum leak. Search the web for "boost leak test subaru" and a How-to will pop up as #1. Perform this test as most idle issues are caused by a leak or a dirty Idle Air Control Valve (IACV).

- poor ground(s)

- dirty IACV

- stuck PCV (located under the throttle body on the intake manifold)

I may be missing a few ideas, but this should get the ball rolling and I suspect the issue is a vacuum leak. As for the rev hanging, the throttle cable may be too tight. It should have a little bit of slack when the throttle is closed. I repeat, the cable should not feel tight when the throttle is closed.

I logged the car last night and it was showing the idle being at 700 rpms even though on the needle it looked like 500 rpms. I downloaded the rom and changed the idle to 850, car feels much better. I'm wondering if the GroupN motor/tranny mounts are causing the additional vibrations.

I'll double check for vacuum/boost leaks. I already removed and cleaned the IACV. I'll double check the throttle cable.

Is the PCV the same as the WRX? I have a fairly new one from an 02-03 WRX.

Hey guys. I have an 02' wrx and unfortunatlely its been sittting for some time due to a spun bearing. A version 7 ej207 just recently became available and I'm intrested in it. The only problem is I'm from CA and have questions about smogability with the JDM ecu. I've read that the ecu doesn't communicate with all obII devices. Anyone with some knowledge on the subject?

You won't be able to pass with the jdm ecu but you can pass by swapping back in the usdm.

^ this. Keep your US ECU and have a basic tune on it that will pass. Aka CELs turned off and monitors forced passed.

Ok thanks for the info. through reading into it a bit more I found that I could use my ecu and harness, but with that I wouldn't be able to run the avcs which kinda sucks, but I guess after smog I could always swap the ecu. Kinda a PIA. Oh California...

Swapping the ecu shouldn't take you more than 15 mins, so not really that much of a hassle. Just make sure to disconnect the battery before hand.

Dirty iacv might be your issue, make sure to have new gasket before you clean....

YUP!!!(Well probably) I recently upgraded to Group N tranny, motor and dog bone. Way more vibration. It gets better as they break in. I have also ordered a new throttle cable as mine has become very sticky, we took it off and cleaned it, it worked for a bit but is sticking again. I'll let you know if it fixed my over revving issue.

it's not exactly what you're after, but before i spun a bearing i was running a vf36 w/a p20 single scroll housing and a 38mm vta ewg. so bigger exhaust housing than a vf30, ball bearing chra, and tial wheel/shaft. road dynos only though.

That would be nice! Im just curious on the gains il get.

I think the thing that is limiting me making more power is the downpipe which is a old school 3 in downpipe, same style as oem so the internal wastegate flow sucks.

To remedy this i want to go EWG so in hoping that will help spool and power.

Do you have equal length headers ?

If not you should get Tomei or Killer B

http://www.subaruclub.se/forum/showthread.php?t=97711

Here is my build that i posted on a Swedish forum.

Ive done alot of work on it obviously. My latest power goal is to add a EWG and make the car flexfuel with carberry rom.

Im also working on the brake system, 2 pot rears are on amd the brembo front will wait til summer.

Also purchased a rear diffuser with the cusco brace to fit it on.
Overnighted from japan for around 180$ :P

The car goes like crazy spool isnt bad at all.

If i brake boost boost i have full boost at 3000rpm.

Just feel like the 3in blank plate flange on the downpipe is limiting the internal wastegate alot.
