Thumbs down USA WRX's suck??

I live in NZ and own a 94 WRX and I have just joined and read one of the posts about racing a Civic Si, do your WRX's suck or what! Over here no Honda would have a chance with a WRX not even a NSX, so I thought I would just get my 2 cents worth!

please know what you are talking about before you open your mouth. for one thing our WRX's have more power than the new ones in oz, 227bhp vs 215bhp so you are in no position to say that. further more the only thread i know about that is about an impreza vs an Si was about the impreza 2.5RS not the WRX (IF your talking abou that thread i have no idea how you could of possibly missed that, the word 2.5Rs was only mentioned about 395 times). and im gonna assume you were talking abou that thread otherwise why would you post about a WRX in the N/A powertrain forum? ----> which is another dead give away that the previous thread was about the 2.5RS not the WRX.

popnGEAR,
The STi was never brought to Europe by Subaru, so all STis (the 280hp model, as the base Impreza Turbo in the UK is 215hp) in Europe are grey market. The P1 was built as an STi for the UK, and also has 280hp.

an NSX?! ha! i didnt even see that. the new NSX's are capable of running 13's flat in the QM. that tough compettion for the STi let alone a regular WRX.

popngear. WRX 101: for the new WRX, the rest of the world gets a 215hp version like its always had since 1994 (in europe they were called impreza turbos, and austrailia they were called WRX's like the jap spec ones) this year all turbo imopreza's are now called WRX's world wide. the new WRX's for the rest of the world still put out 215bhp. the WRX that the states got has 227bhp. we lucked out for once. the only WRX's that ever had 276bhp were jap spec WRX's and the STi's. however for the new WRX not even the jap spec has 280bhp, it only has 247bhp. the new STi however does put out 276bhp.

Thumbs down

Why would anyone buy a $90,000 6 banger that only does the 1/4 mile in 13.4. My old 98 Z28 was an auto and it ran 13.3s all day. To me that is a waste. It all depends on what this guy has in his car. With little performance mods and a good driver he can beat a NSX. Those cars are nothing.

I agree that camaros are fast---in a straight line---try and make it turn and you realize that you're driving a boat. If you don't believe me, go to an auto-x and watch the camaros and mustangs bob up and down as they try to turn.
Personally though, I wouldn't buy a NSX or a Camaro.

You are exactly right about the camaro in autoX. But with a little money(less than $5000) you can even handle better than a NSX.
That's still under $30000. But that's old news. I trraded the car in for a 4x4 truck. I was looking at an Impreza for something to play with.

No, it was 276hp and 2800lbs (even less weight for the RA). I don't know 0-60 or quarter mile times, but they definitely made a car similar to the other specs.

Just to clarify, I had the pleasure of viewing a 98' RA run the quarter (bone stock, on US gas) repeatedly at 13.0-13.3... quite a machine. Also, the weight was 2687 lbs.

About a year ago here in Frederick the SCCA hosted an auto-X with a very tight course. There was a street prepared 2000 Trans-Am and a 60s model camaro that were in the top 5 overall for there excellent times. These were seasoned drivers who new there cars. They also had a very good handle on suspension tuning and power applications for auto-x racing.

I'm sure these cars wouldn't do near as well in the mud or snow compared to any all wheels drive vehicle. But I wouldn't come close to thinking that one of these car wouldn't have a chance of turning good times at an auto-x. Good Driver + Well Tuned Car = Good Times in any driving competition.

For the price of an NSX I would rather have an M5, Skyline, or a 22b or an Sti.

One of my good buddies has a 98 Mustang GT, all stock. His last 2 events placed him in 2nd in SM, and his times would had him in second in STS too, beating about 12 cars. They handle just fine.

No, he was not running r-compounds, just 17" good street rubber.

For what it's worth: I read an article a while back (don't remember where) in which a guy tested an STi 0-60 times. He clocked 0-60 in 4.8-4.9 all day on a wet tarmac with two passengers and a full tank of gas.

Japanese cars are only allowed to have 276 bhp, maximum (by law). So, companies advertise 276 but it is thought that many, including their version of the WRX (STi?) have more than that.

Did anyone read the article in Road and Track late last year that compared 0-60 and 1/4 mile times of about ten different world class cars. This list included an official Subaru Impreza WRX (WRC race ready), Lamborgini Diablo, Porsche 911 Turbo, Guldstrand Corvette, Saleen Mustang, Viper 650R, an HKS racing 180SX dragster and a couple of others. They claimed the WRX produced about 300 bhp and outran the Diablo 0-60 by posting a time under 4 seconds and a quarter mile of 11.78 (I just found the magazine).

Don't even start comparing a Camaro to an NSX. I think that could be called sacrilege.

first of all i was talking about the wrx which was stated in the first post. we were comparing the wrx to the nsx not sti to nsx. second bsquare i was being sarcastic because those are the specs for a NSX 6 speed not the wrx. hope that cleared somethings up.
