GC8--GDA short shifter compatibility??
hey- so, those who have these things in their cars, or have seen/touched/felt/ate them please reply
ive got a 93L that has a 94 JDM wrx trans in it with wrx shiftlinkage etc. it feels liek a normal GDA wrx shift linkage, kinda sloppy etc. does the GDA linkage in a GC8 car not work? ive also heard that theres a difernance between 93-96 and 97+ shift linkages. can anyone confirm that? i want to make my shifter feel better, i.e. install STI short shift kit or the SYMS complete linkage thingybob. no cartboy, or what not stick only type mods. does anyone who has a older trans know the compatiblilty? id guess that they are all the same, and i can just go to my parts counter and drop $200 on the STI linkage.

I am not sure about the MY94 WRX transmission, but my bets are that it uses the same shift linkage ( or similar) to the shift linkage found in my MY96. In 1997 they switched the way the linkage worked slightly and that allows for the compatibility with the STi, SPT, and SYMS shift linkages. The difference between the GC/GF and the GD/GG is the shift lever itself has a wider bushing. However, the attachment joint at the transmission is the same. For the 1996, in my case, the joint at the transmission is opposite from the way the 97+ transmissions are. You can replace this joint, however it is a bear.
I don't know what GDA you drove, but my GGA had a rather firm shifter feel that almost parallelled the STi linkage in my GM6. My 1996, however, is all sorts of sloppy. A good place to start would be to replace the shifter bushings that are located on the side of the transmission. This is where a majority of the shifter slop comes from. -Jon |

I'm using the USDM WRX shifter linkage on MY94 Tranny. you need that adaptor piece that stimpy was talking about. everything works fine but my 3rd is kinda weird from 2nd to 3rd feels fine but when you want to down shift from 4th to 3rd its a little off to the right its not sright up also my drive shalf doesn't clear the usdm linkage I had to use lots of washers to move the drive shalf down a little bit. also when down shifting if you dont slowly let off the clutch you'll hear this clucking noise that I believe is the drive shalf hitting part of the linkage that you might be able ot cut off I haven't been able to get a good look but scraches seem to tell me so
hoped this helped in any way Dan |

the B&M is just a lever though, it will still be sloppy with the old linkage.
