Quick oil question, need quick answer.
Does the 4.5 quarts refill include the oil in the filter, or do you fill the filter and then put another 4.5 quarts into the engine? Thanks.

That's the total amount, including what you put into the filter.

Yes, it should be 4.2 quarts for MY00 2.5RS, and this includes the oil in the oil filter.

Doh, I forgot to take off the oil cap while draining. Does that matter? I only got 3 full to the top quart bottles out of the engine including the filter. I checked the oil right after a mild drive and it was up to the top part of the twist on the stick before it gets flat. The old dino oil looked like coffee, still somewhat transparent, is that good? Thanks fo all the help. Just started doing my own oil changes since I decided to go synthetic and didn't want to pay for it not even knowing what they actually put in.

It is best to remove the oil cap before draining. Oil level on the dipstick will be inaccurate right after a mild drive since most of the oil is still up in the engine. You must allow sufficient time for all the oil to drain back down to the pan before checking oil level. Wait at least ten minutes after you shut off the engine before pulling out the oil dipstick.

knightsnke, check your owner's manual for the oil capacity for your WRX. Check your oil level. If it's too high, then drain some out. I still don't understand why some people do not bother to read the owner's manual.
