Installed My Morimoto Mini H1 Projectors
Hey everybody, just thought I would share some of my experience installing the Mini H1 projector kit I got from The Retrofit Source (well, my girlfriend bought them for me for my birthday from them, but I digress...), and this was my first time ever retrofitting headlights.
I used this thread to learn how to open up my headlights. I'm not going to lie, it was nerve racking baking the headlights in the oven and ever so gently trying to pry them apart. I ran into a problem when I went to mount the projectors. The blobeye H1 halogen bulb holder is a separate piece from the reflector. It's also the exact same size as the nut that holds the projector in, so it could not be modified and had to go. As you can see, the nut and bracket are the exact same diameter. So unsurprisingly, the nut was too small for the hole. The kit comes with washer-like adapters for H4 or H7 housings. The blobeye is H1. I did not want to go hacking up my housings to get a plain large washer to lay flat against the back of the reflector bowl, so I got creative with one of the included adapters (I don't know if it was the H4 or H7 as I dont know which is which. All I can say is that it was the smaller adapter). Took a grinding wheel to it and came up with this: Which now fits perfectly here: And as an added bonus, with the slightest of trimming, the tab on top of the adapter even slides into the little notch on the top of the hole in the back of the reflector. This means that the cutoff is locked into a level position. I dont know if it is a design similarity to the H4 or H7 bulb or just plain amazing luck, but it worked out perfectly. All in all, it took about a day from start to completely finished. I'll be sure to post up pics of how it looks and some night shots tonight.

Heres an output shot. I'm still trying to dial in the aim.
And some daytime pics. I agonized over whether or not to clear my headlights and even test fit them without the reflectors, but decided I wanted to keep them for now. Last edited by Ryguy32789; 04-25-2011 at 09:02 AM. |

Updated with an output shot. I can't believe the range of vertical adjustment in the stock bowls, it gives you like 45 degrees of adjustment.

Good work! That looks 100x easier than my fx35 bi-xenon retro. I had to hack everything under the sun to make those fit.

Hi Ryguy,
Is that the mini gatling shroud or the standard gatling shroud? |

If you remove the washers between the top two post of the bowl and lens holder it will fix the bowing in the cutoff.

^I tried that with my Generation 3 (before the 4.1s came out) H1 projectors and it made the cutoff very yellow.
I added an extra washer on each bolt (2 on each, total of 8 on each projector) and it made the color VERY sharp and purple. The other projector is still a little yellow and only a little blue/purple. I think there's a bulb seating issue. I bet if I had only 1 washer on the top bolts it wouldn't bow. Turboed13b, are you on HIDPlanet.com? I think I've seen your username? |

Also, that shot is with the car very close to the garage. Farther away the cutoff looks better. Last edited by Ryguy32789; 09-20-2011 at 11:57 PM. |

Did you just get the kit with the newly released H1 projectors?
I've seen those modded how 13b said and it straightens out the cutoff and adds more color. Not in my case though. |

I got them back in March, installed em in April. I think they are the newest version, they're the ones with the screw-in shrouds instead of the snap on ones.

Looks great. I am one of those A$$H***$ who put an HID kit into my non HID projectors (06 2.5i). I had no idea I wasnt getting the full benefit of HID nor did I realize I was still blinding people. I was finally "schooled" when I joined NASIOC. I have gone back to halogen until I can afford these. Gonna wait and do the Bi-Xenon and Blazer fogs all at once.

Oh, and just one more thing to add about the install on these, I was not able to use the really fat rubber washer that came with the kit, but I did use the thinner rubber washer between the oem reflector and the projector and it's still working beautifully.

The bixenon is the one thing that isn't hooked up right now, Buddy back home is going to help me wire that up soon though. But now completing this I kind of want to do a quad retrofit because it looks so damn sexy lol |
