Axxis Ultimate brake pads
I read somewhere that they are a new compound and are now called Axxis Ult. I put them on about 4 months ago. Front and rear shipped for around $90 from Import Replacement Parts.
Dust: 4/10 - A lot. A... Lot... I haven't used many different pads before, but it is significantly more than stock. More than the Green Stuff and Red Stuff pads on my previous cars. Performance: 9/10 - Great. They bite when cold and don't seem to fade. I never did a track day or anything, but on some aggressive canyon runs, they never ran out. I used to fry the stock pads on the same roads. Fitment: 5/10 - I scored this one a little lower. They go in and out just fine, but on the rears, there was like 2mm that stuck out beyond the rotor. It was a very small amount, but it caused a "wire" of pad to actually rub on the perimeter of the rotor. I don't think that it was a safety issue or anything, but it made a lot of noise. I took them out a couple of times and scraped the excess off, but it would come back in a couple of days. Noise: 3/10 - They started out not too bad, but after a couple of days they got loud. Part of it was from the fitment issue aboue, but I think mostly they were just loud. I used grease on all of the shims and lube points, and even took them out and re-greased them. They were just loud. At speeds between 5 and about 30 they made all kinds of noise. Overall I really like the performance. I can live with the dust, but my commute is 85 miles each way and I couldn't take the noise. I took them out and put in some Hawk HPS (at almost 2x the price). Hopefully these will be quieter.

Strange, I have never had any noise or fitment issues with my Axxis ULT's.
Not on FHI 4 pots, or in the Stoptech set I have now. The rest of your review I can only agree with. The dust is really bad, but thank god it doesn't cake on as hard as Ferode Ds2500 or Hp+ do. |

I currently have those on my car. I love the braking performance but the brake dust is really bad. I'd take the performance over dust though. I never had any fitment problems either? They went right on perfectly.

I may have had a bad set or something. I will probably buy them again when it is time to replace the Hawks...
The fronts fint perfectly and made no noise. It was the rears that were slightly too big, and that is where all of the noise came from... |

So, one month later and I miss the Axxis pads initial bite. The Hawks feel "o.k." but not as good as the Axxis did. There is much less dust and no noise with the Hawks. I will try out another set of Axxis when these are finished. IMO the Axxis are much better. Hopefully the next set of rears will be quieter...

Hmmm, I have the same thoughts about the Axxis Ultimates. I used them for about 2 months. I couldnt stand the noise. I put them in the garage. I threw the OEM's on, and was happy again. I dont recall dus(t, but it was a while ago. I just bought another pair of economy pads ($90) for the whole car. They are quiet and dusty. I considered the hawks, but couldnt get over the price.

im on my 2nd set of axxis pads. awesome for the street. they have NEVER EVER made ONE sound. dust isnt nearly as bad as the ebc greenstuff i had when i first bought the car.
they do fade though. not track pads AT ALL. after a bout two minutes or less of aggressive driving, i had no brakes |

Duralast Semi-metallic from autozone. They are about the same as OEM pads, dust a little less. I think once it gets warm going with hawk pads or maybe EBC... A friend has them on his Evo and likes them a lot.

I have these on the fronts of my Stoptech BBK. I've done 3 NASA HPDEs with them at level 1. I've been careful not to use the brakes when in the paddock area after a run. I may have held the brakes for a few seconds once or twice at most. Anytime I'm above 45mph now, I get slight vibration just tapping the brakes. Ordered some Hawk Blue compound (9012) to see if I can scrub that crap off and get rid of the vibration.
After the scrub (and if it does clear up the vibration), I MAY try to use the pads for an upcoming HPDE 1 at Infineon (2/14), be REALLY careful about being stopped and using the brakes, and see if the vibration comes back. Performance at the HPDE's were coincidentally quite good. I never had any brake fade and feeling was good overall. But given all the care I put into not leaving excessive brake pad deposit on my rotors, I hesitate to recommend these for any kind of track usage other than beginning (I consider myself an intermediate driver, but who knows). To give you an idea of the braking I was doing, I'd head into turns 7 and 11 at about 90mph (top speed in 3rd) and braked hard for them. Of course, they're going to dust substantially more than stock brakes. Since these are the only aftermarket pads I've had on the fronts, I can't say how these compare to others. But after an HPDE, there was a lot of dust on my wheels. These things make noise when just driving around town. The squeal is noticeable. But for me, it's a tradeoff. For the record, ULTs should not ever be used on the track...we actually put a neon sticker on the pad boxes stating this. The vibrations you are getting are not from holding the pedal while the rotors are hot, its because the pads have overheated and deposited material unevenly on the rotor face. If its mild the Hawk blues should clean them up but theres only so much they can do. I'd recommend investing in a proper set of race pads like Hawk DTC70 or PFC01. The Hawk blues are better to run on track than the ULTs but they have a relatively low operating temp and are very abrasive on the rotors.

I recently had Axxis Ultimates installed on my 2005 STI and I am quite displeased with them, enough that I bought HPS to replace them yesterday.
I understand that these pads are not made for track use, but the few times I've been at fairly high speeds (110-120), these pads are miserable. Just a little brake and it instantly feels like I have no brakes left. Even at highway cruise speeds (80-90 here in New England), I get this feeling often, and honestly it's kind of scary. OEM pads never had this problem, even at higher speeds then 120... They do make a TON of dust, far more then my OEM pads did. Noise, LOTS of noise on mine too. Anything under 30 and they squeal like I'm slaughtering baby pigs. It's right on the brink of unbearable in the summer with the windows down. Unless I'm on the brakes hard, they squeal...a LOT. I got them fairly cheap, and now I understand why. For a WRX they may be better then the OEM pads, but the OEM pads on my STI outperformed the Ultimates by a long shot. |

i agree, i have axxis ults on my sti. at low speeds when the pads are warmed up, it sounds like i'm stopping a freight train.
other than that they are ok.. |

Good analogy, I like it. That's how mine are as well, and I couldn't take it anymore. I bought a set of HPS at Wicked Big Meet, which are going on July 3rd; hopefully they are not as noisy....

The Hawks are better. It took a little while for them to bed in. I don't know if I just didn't do it right (I followed the instructions on the box), but it took like a month or so before the initial bite felt like the Axxis. They have been much quieter and less dust (though still a fair amount) than the Ults. They do squeak a little when stopping sometimes, but it is much less than the Axxis pads...
