The only part of the interior that doesn't work for me is the ..
Headrests...
Has anyone swapped out the headrests with something that is better? IMHO... too much space between the back of my head and the headrests, it doesn't fold forward, and I think it looks goofy in relation to the rest of the seat. No real biggie, it's not like it will stop me from buying one (very soon), just wondering. Thanks, DREW

I'm with you on that one, totally. I think the same of the headrest and also wish it had lumbar support.
Surprisingly my 4Runner has the most comfortable seats ever. Adjustable lumbar, adjustable side bolsters, adjustable (tilt forward or back) headrest, etc. edit - spell Last edited by loafing1; 08-17-2001 at 04:06 PM. |

Hmmm, dealer swapped the leather seat for me when I got my 98RS, and it does have lumbar support I think, or maybe you meant it's not enough?
As for headrest, you guys are right so I got use to NOT using it at all; they are there for looks only. Besides, I hate the oil (from hair/head) sticking on them, so I kinda avoid leaning my head on them. -Alan (Another MY98 Owner) |

You're not suppose to be resting your head on it anyway ... welp, that's what my driving instructor told me years and years ago ...

Boy I could not agree more. I am always reaching for the headrest to tilt alittle forward, but NOT. Subaru what is with that? Do I have to take it out and put it into a vice and bend it forward somehow?
I'm looking for solutions as well. Good post, I should have mentioned it earlier. I have put up with this in my WRX for four months. |

If you don't mind color mismatching I'm sure there are pillow-like extension things you could buy in maybe Wal-Mart or some car parts store...
If you do mind, there's always a reupholstering job. Unless a headrest from a different car would fit... but then we're back to the color mismatch. -S2- |

Bemani,
I never indicated that I'd want to rest my head on it. Siper2, "pillow-like extension things you could buy in maybe Wal-Mart ", ...yuck! I would think that you would simply want to minimize the distance between your head and the headrest to lessen the whiplash effect if you get rear ended. I think about these things in advance. I also tighten my belt as tight as I can get it when I know it's time to get 'busy'. As it stands now, what is it...2 , 3 inches or so...too much. Plus a headrest tilted forward looks better, IMHO. Anyway, if you come up with something that works please let us know. DREW, |

I'm on a mission to go to each dealership (of different makes, of course) to see which adjustable headrest has a similiar color and
fabric. I agree with you guys (and/or gals) totally. I think the headrest is one of the most important aspects of the seat... esp. for daily driving. I was in a friend's Audi A4, and what a difference the headrest makes during the drive... I felt like taking them with when I left his car; except it wasn't the same color, hehehee. I keep you ppl posted. |

Headrests are made for safety, not comfort. Think of cars from years ago... no headrests, no seatbelts, hard dashboards. My '87 jeep's rear seats still didnt have any hr's. Now we have soft dashboards/steering wheel/visors (stock), seat belts, headrests, airbags, etc.
Headrests are for protecting against whiplash... not to help you get comfy and fall asleep =) g |

if you're wearing a helmet, the headrest is in the right place, otherwise, it sucks. So i just wear my helmet all the time...the ladies love it!!

I absolutely despise my headrests. I didn't notice because I was so taken with the car when I test drove it. Somebody on a post said he went to a scrap yard and got the headrests from a 89 Legacy and re-upholstered them to match. Search for 'Found the Holy Grail - an adjustable headrest.'
