Unnorthodox Under-drive Pulleys
Are these pulleys worth it? I can get a good deal for about 320$ CAD (taxes included) and I am wondering whether they can increase the HP by 5-12 HP as mentioned in their ads. I currently have a stock EJ-18 (1.8 L). I'm only beginning to work on it right now...
Thanks for any comments or advices.

I have a 2.5. Other than my CAI, this was the value I have gotten yet. It is only $200 (US), and I think it gave me as much gains as my $800 exhaust (header-back). That is just what it felt like, no numbers, but I really like the improvement in acceleration since getting the UR pulley

I also have the Underdrive pulley. Some people day to get the stock-sized lightened pulley set. You may look into that also.
This was the very first mod I did and I felt the difference immediately. Much stronger pull through the band. To me, it basically jumps to 4000 rpm right away. I don't feel it as much any more as i am used to how my car feels now, but when I first got it, it made a huge difference. From what I've heard, the more mods you get and more HP you have, the better results you get from your pulley. Someone told me a good rule of thumb is 10% gain. I think that is too high, but I will say about 5% gain in HP. on my 2.2l, that's about 6HP from stock. |

Thank you my friends. This has been a mod I've been considering for a while. As for the HP increase (judging from 99OBSter's response) I should be able to squeeze out 5 HP since the EJ-18 has 110 HP and 110 TQ.
I'm probably gonna get them in the next 2 weeks! I just can't wait. My friend has been telling me to be patient when it comes to car mods. I guess he's right. |

Get the UD pulley, it's cool! I've had mine for about 2000 miles now and the car pulls better mid-range.
and as far as patience for mods.... no such thing!! If you got the dough...buy, buy, buy! look for good deals and have fun installing most of it yourself! |
