Well, enough arguing about speeds. One of these days I'll shoot a quick youtube vid of the turnpike.
Its not always flowing a hundred miles an hour, but certain stretches of it usually do! Hell the goddamned traffic does 80-90 the entire way from ocala to gainesville on I75.

I would occasionally zip my MS6 up to 100+ just because it was the quickest car I ever owned and it was fun. I only ever did this at night on a long, straight stretch of road when there was absolutely no other cars around. Last edited by jr0bb5; 12-17-2012 at 01:24 PM. |

My pet amusement was the main roads through town would have a sign facing you at each intersection of the main road informing you the side street had a giveway sign, must be happy days for sign makers in Germany. * a friend living in Germany had a modified de-restricted M5 that'd top 180mph and loved hunting Porches to deflate their egos for fun. |

And I have NEVER gotten a speeding ticket. Ever. Knock on wood |

If anyone abused their 2012 Impreza it was James Wilson, and I don't think his was burning oil.
Didn't he auto-x his pretty much right away? |

I've never had any reason to complain about mpg's, as 99.999999% of my driving is a 13 mile commute every day through 40mph and 50mph zones.
What I DO complain about is MPQ's- Miles Per Quart! |

Is it burning more oil now that its cooler outside? Assuming you're having more of a winter than Atlanta. I think the average temp is 50.

Did I hear something?^
Oil upodate- almost 200mi on the 0w20 Castrol and I haven't noticed any difference in mpg's or any shorter warmup times. The engine noise is louder, at least to my ear. Will keep checking the dipstick, and at a thousand, I'll post my findings. Any news from any other oil-burners? |

oil consumption 2012 Imprez
Hello folks,
I now have a little over 10K miles on my 2012 and have owned it for one year. I have had to add one quart of oil every 1200-1500 miles, and have brought it back to the dealer twice and both times they say that it's "within normal ranges" for oil consumption with using the new synthetic oil. The car also has a squeaky driver's seat back, and a noisy "clutch" on the heat/ac fan which sounds like an exhalation of air every 10 seconds that they also say is normal. I really want to love my Subaru, but it's just not happening. Any advice? |

Sounds like we have the SAME problems! The only advice I can give is to be persistent, and don't let subaru fan-boys on the internet tell you that its your fault, or that your new car is supposed to burn oil!
Welcome to the oil burners club! We're getting new members more and more as consumers start to rack up the mileage. Too bad your new and can't vote in the oil consumption/break-in poll! Please keep us posted on what's going on, I'm very interested in communicating with ANY and ALL other owners of oil consuming new Imprezas. |

If you can afford to trade, that's pretty much the only immediate solution.
I'm weighing my options, but I'm stuck with this car for a while, and I don't think its fair that those of us with crap cars should have to eat thousands in losses. Especially in this economy. |

So there are how many of us who own oil consuming 2012 models? Of the total owners out there, approximately what percentage would people guess own oil consuming 2012 models?

Its really starting to seem like more folks are noticing the loss of oil and complaining to soa. That is good.
If the unhappy owners keep the fire lit under soa's sorry a$$, maybe they'll end up witha recall. That's what I hope for. |

Well there are/have been 15-20 owners on nasioc, several on Edmunds (including one account of an engine being replaced), and google finds a variety of sites with owners complaining. No one but soa knows the percentage. One troll-like asswipe on here spouts out percentages, but he has no real data.
The service staff at both dealers I've tried say the same things. "All the new subarus burn oil". And "we put an extra quart in since they burn so much oil now". Grant at SOA took great delight in telling me burning through quarts between changes was normal. And that I shouldn't be complaining "topping off the oil every other tank of gas is YOUR job". But new members seem to be coming in more regularly now with this issue. Folks have slandered me, insulted me, and pretty much made it their hobby to somehow discredit me and blame me for this car being a turd. But after working on and owning a ton of cars, the seat and the oil consumption are not something I feel I as a consumer should be stuck with. I've tried getting things fixed, like the seat and a few other things. But no one at the dealer level knows anything about these new "wonder" models with the fb and fa engines. They know how to spout out sales pitches, but subaru did very little to nothing in terms of educating its staff about the new line. |

Update on my Impreza burning oil!!! It turns out that my Camshaft Sensors Seals where leaking. When the mechanic at the stealer showed me I could not believe it. Now here is the catch, they don't sell the seals separate from the sensor! So, SOA is going to send them two(2) new camshaft sensors. And it's all covered in my plan since the car is not even 1 year old yet! WTF! I thought I had a lemon for sure, but I guess time will tell, I am due an oil change in another 2,500 miles lets see how it runs out.

^^ Well, this is interesting news. If the sensor seals are leaking on yours, they might be leaking for other people too.
Is this leak something that can be easily seen, or do you need to do much disassembly to view this leak? If it's something that can be easily seen, can you post pics letting others know where to look? |

I'm looking at the service manual. Apparently there are four camshaft sensors:
I can't tell from the illustration in the service manual if it is possible to view these parts without removing a bunch of other stuff first. I'm guessing that the exhaust sensors would be especially hard to view, because they're on the underside of the engine. |

OK, now I'm looking at the sensor removal portion of the service manual. The intake sensors don't look like they should be too hard to see. The right intake sensor requires removing the air intake duct.
The exhaust sensors require removing the plastic belly pan, and that's it. So they shouldn't be too hard to view, for those who are motivated. My Impreza isn't consuming oil, but if it was, I'd be checking this out! |
