also, tirerack has dunlop wintersport M3s at 215/45R17. also rated very well in terms of wet and snow traction but have a higher speed rating. slightly narrower by 10mm. should i consider these instead of blizzaks? wheel in question btw is rota tarmac3s 17x7.5 +48.

M3 are quite old design. 10+ years if I am not mistaken.
This winter looks like bad time to buy performance winters in the USA. Krzys |

Has anyone tried running Dunlop 3Ds with the tread rotation reversed? I had mine put back on recently and the tire shop recommended the reverse rotation because of mild cupping from last spring. So far I have noticed a decent amount of hydroplaning in standing water and not much grip in snow and ice. Probably going to have them swapped back to normal rotation.

Edit: Pls read tire FAQ or go to TIRE RACK'S site and search as why u get certain tire wear as this will be very helpful in preventing uneven or cupping of your tires. Last edited by trev762; 12-04-2012 at 05:25 PM. |

I have a 2012 Subaru Impreza Sport Premium and I'm planning on buying from Craigslist a set of 4 Winter tires.
The current size of my tires are 17x7" 205/50R17. The tires that I'm trying to buy are Blizzaks 215/60R16. Quick! I need to know if they will fit and if I would have an issue with the rubbing against my car since here in NYC there are a lot of potholes. Thanks! |

In that case they will fit but speedometer error will be greater than 4%. Your real speed will be faster than what speedometer shows. 4 mph difference going 60MPH and 6mph going 100 MPH. Not saying you will go that fast just pointing out error rate. I run 225/45/17 on my car and error rate is less than 1%. Same with 195/60/16 under 1%

Question for the experts, I put my Wintersport 3ds on close to a month ago, and of course we have been seeing crazy warm weather. It's been 50s and 60s all this week and looks to continue. Am I doing more harm than good to my new tires? Should I switch back to summers for now?

I did the same thing when I first got mine. Just don't drive like a nut. Switching back to your other tires now just to put the winters back on is really just a waste of time.

I know this has probably been covered, but I didnt have much luck searching the thread and dont really have the luxury of time needed to read all 132 pages soooo, found a great deal on blizzak ws70 tires in 235/50/17. I know stock on my wrx is 235/45/17, but I wouldnt mind having a little extra height to offset rough winter roads. Will I have any fitment/clearance issues on a 2013 wrx? What about speedo issues/how much slower will it really read?

Are any of you generally running your winter compound tires several PSI higher than what the door plaque states?
I had a similar harrowing experience a week ago on my OEM summers in the wet and cold weather. Mounted my Wintersport 3D tires today, but the daytime temps are still in the 50s which is annoying. |

U did say u were hydroplaning were u not, so lets say u spun out and crippled someone. That someone is going to sue whether it is u or tire rack. It is liability that I was expressing and if tire rack didn't give u a receipt than most likely that person is going to sue u. Remember here that tire rack I think is a franchise so anybody can obtain the name and doesn't mean they r going to adhere to their policies and pretty sure corporate heads would not allow for them to instal directional tires backwards lol. As for the cupping it is obviously the tire itself. Either from a slipped belt, developing hot spots from a bent wheel, beating on them...etc. |

My bad. Going from 235/45 to 235/50 is only 3.6%. I think I've read somewhere that error can't be more than 4% else you risk your brakes failing. I think I would look to 205/50/17 as my size if I were you. Supposedly narrower tire is better is snow.

I agree that a more narrow tire is arguably better in the snow, but I found a good deal on a like new used set of 235 width ws70. I'm going to grab them. Thanks for the help!

All this speed error is academic if tires do not fit the car.
Go to Bridgestone or tirerack page and compare the dimensions of current tire with new one. Tell us (you do not expect us to do everything for you) what is the delta. It may or may not fit. Krzys |
