You know that if you take the "silencer" and cut the front part of the belly that sits behind the fog light/ cover, you have a ram air when you take the cover out? Great for track events and in case of the 04-05 STi's that have a little intake on the cover, make it functional.

[img]http://www.flex-innovations.com/elbow_delete.htm[img/]

Cut around the edge of the belly with the exception of the the mounting tab.
You will thank me. You will have a cold air intake and if you ever hit a puddle of water, the top snorkel will take over untill you exit such puddle.

Now go and have fun.

I READ somewhere (forum i think) that by doing that it disrupts the air comming in from the underhood ram not making it anymore efficiant. So its one or the other, how did they check to see if it happened i dont know but thats what i READ.

Default Sorry I cant reply or multi-quote properly, Im on my PDA.

Blacksails192- Is that the round rubbery gasket stuck on there? That's the only thing I left, I think. I took off the big white snorkus and the black 'ram air' piece. Did I miss something??

Also, I don't know why they call it a 'ram air'. The hood seals right in front of it so it just kinda sucks in air from the area behind it, it certainly ISN'T being rammed in,lol.

Super_HKS & CynicX- Its the simple things in life Being free always sweetens the deal, lol. If I didn't die from the rush of going 175mph on my R1, doubt that hearing a S2 catless will overload me!
Thanks for the posts guys.

I've tried ordering the gp moto elbow from 4 different places. Noone seems to have it in stock.

OP, as stated by others, with a cai and protune you'll love the sound. It's a little loud for my taste but it does give me a smile sometimes.

whether you leave it normal, or cut off that plastic seal in front of the scoop, or make it a "hot air intake," you swear you can feel any real difference between the 3.

^^^^^^

I WON'T EVER try to speak for our beloved Uncle, but the point he MAY be trying to make is that the snorklectomy/silencer removal is simply a waste of time and effort, no matter how little of either is involved.

Just like everybody else, I pulled the snorkus and the silencer, plugged the snorkus' fender hole and created an airtight seal between the airbox and the fender. After sucking copius amounts of brake dust into the filter, I put it all back together about a week later.

Noise, noise and more noise. It's a sound mod, plain and simple.

Scotty's suggestion to cut the rubber seal ahead of the snorkus is the only truly useful info in this entire thread.

you can go stage 2 for cheap, or it can cost alot. not mentioned above is you need a heat shield. you can modify the stock one, but time = money, and not everyone has the tools laying around to trim steel

the 60 for installation included trimming the stock heatshield to fit over the dp. i also spent 50 bucks for a spt turbo heatshield to double up on preventing heat soak to my intercooler.

the route that i took is the cheapest easy route. if you really want cheap... get used ebay dp for 50, install it yourself, and get a tactrix cable for 50 bucks and do your own tuning (at your own risk). i didnt want to do all that. essentially, mine is all plug and play.
