Opensource works 100% for me and many others, to call it "crappy" is, to put it bluntly, ignorant.

Opensource also logs about 10 times faster than what a accessport can handle allowing for a better reference to the tuner to make minor changes to a tune. Accessport is a fine tuning solution but like anything has its positives and negatives, one of the main reasons I went OS over AP was because of my tuner and it was cheaper.

I highly recommend Phatbotti tuning for either OS or AP E-tuning. There are two tuners, one on each coast. You guys arguing which is better, c'mon... really? to each is own, they both freaking work... Choose one, get ur car running right and don't trip what someone else is using cause they both work. pro's and cons with both.
Good luck with your tune.

And what experience do you have with tuning either platform to make that statement?

My car has been tuned both ways, and during open source they key had been turned off each time an adjustment was made and with Cobb they left the car running and tweaked as they went.

If you're paying someone elsee to tune, why does this matter?

And for a relatively standard setup like you have, it shouldn't take all that many runs to dial it in.

The end result is no different for an 03. The end user shouldn't care about Cobb vs. OS, only about price, convenience and the end result.

Can you go to a website and download it to your computer to use to tune the PCM on your vehicle? Or is it hard wired into your computer to use any and every time you want? No, you download the "software" to your computer and adjust the PCM from there, then you upload the new programming to your PCM, other wise you could just will your PCM to be tuned to however you want!!! So yes the be exact it is a form of software, just like ccleaner or another type of computer software.

And no that's not all that I have got, I also have the ability to change maps on the fly, and launch control, AND the ability to monitor a severe amount of data right there in front of me. Listen, I don't know where this got into who's got the bigger dick over tuning, I have used os in the past and granted yes it did work flawlessly for me before, but now that I have used the ap tuner I (that means me just in case someone else tries to add to this) like the functions of the ap tuner a lot more than os, I am not a tuner, but I do like the ability to monitor many things while driving, so there.

Do you have to have the AP always connected?

I can do the same with Opensource. Believe it or not there is some form of map switching, but when I used the AP the only time I switched maps was going from stage1 to stage2. And Opensource had launch control and speed density LONG before Cobb. Not to mention data polling for logging is 10x faster. Thats fine if you like the AP and it works for you. But your state ment of "crappy opensource" was just clearly showing an obvious misunderstanding or gross lack of knowledge for the software's capabilities, especially if you have ever used Ecuedit (which unfortunately is no longer opensource). You are the one that opened that can of worms........

The only reason why I called it crappy opensource was because I had found out that the tuner I went to charged me the same amount to do opensource as they would cobb, but that opensource is a freeware that anyone can download and that I basically got ripped off.

Just want to say thank you to all those that put so much time and effort into romraider and ecuflash. It is unbelievable to me that this software is free. I love the fact that i can just switch maps on the fly with a toggle switch, i can have 20psi right off the line with 2step antilag, and speed density fueling is just awesome! Accessport is a great tool as well, and i used to have one, but a little on the pricey side in comparison.

That's your fault for not doing your research. It's pretty ridiculous you are blaming the software for that. That's just plain moronic. Nobody forced you to get your car tuned and nobody forced you to use that particular tuner. Oh, and FYI there is a reason Cobb hired one of the lead developers that worked on Romraider.

So, since the software is free, your tune should be free? Download ATR and try doing your own tuning. You will quickly gain a new respect for what a tuner does and realize that it isnt the software you are paying for, but the hard work that gets put into it. You just need to find a tuner that cares about what he is doing. Thats all.

No that's not what I think at all, but in a business standpoint, if you have to pay for a product and the labor involved in it then the price should be set at x amount and if you do not have to pay for a product and only labor then the price should be lower because if it costs you 2,000 for the software and say 2 hours labor then the price should be 350-500, but if you're only paying for labor then it should be considerably cheaper. It's the same thing if you were to buy a dyno, those things are 50 to 100,000 and you need to get that money back by charging to do tuning more to pay for the product.

Listen, I started this post and I have my opinions on anything I want, granted yes I didn't do my research but if you actually knew the whole story you would understand but you don't, so please the next time you over fatherly type advice, don't because you have no idea what went on.

And if you must know what happened to completely understand I will tell you, for 1 when I called the tuner and made the appointment I told them the mods I had and the tuner I had and the tuner told me that was fine, all that I had to do was install the injectors(which I tried and failed at doing, which resulted in a fuel leak) I towed it to that shop for them to install the injectors and to tune my car (mind you at this point I CANNOT DRIVE MY CAR) I call them on Monday morning to see how if they had any issues and what time I needed to be there to see my car on the dyno, and then the tuner proceeds to tell me that "he doesn't know if his license to tune with Cobb has been renewed ( which I found out is a huge lie) and that he was waiting to hear back from Cobb well 2pm comes around and he calls to tell me he cannot do the Cobb tune but tells me he can do an opensource tune (which I had an opensource tune performed on my car before so I agreed) now I ask him if he has finished the injectors yet and he tells me he won't start on them till 4:30 ( knowing that my can cannot drive due to the fuel leak and after telling him 5 times that it is my daily and I need it for tomorrow) after the injector install which was done at 5pm that day I asked the tuner if he would be able to at least do a base run with some minor tweaking so that I can drive the vehicle to work the next day and he says no that I would have to drive it as was or leave it, so I finally found a ride to and from work and when I picked the car up the next day it ran like crap!!! Wouldn't hold boost, miss fired like crazy and backfired every 5 minutes. And as I stated before I HAVE USED OPENSOURCE in the past and it worked for me, and yes I should not have said anything bad about the software but it was more directed towards the tuner and his inability to properly tune my car, and as far as research I did do plenty of research on different tuners in my area, there were 2 in my area and 2 about an hour away, however the one in nc the dyno was down and wouldn't be back up till sometime in January and the other one in my area seemed like they were always on vacation, and the one that I went to I found ON HERE and all the reviews stated that it was such a great place to have your car tuned at.

Oh and the comment about Cobb hiring a lead developer from romraider doesn't mean anything other than Cobb saw something he did that they like, because its the same thing as Hyundai and Kia hiring audi's lead design engineer they did it because they liked his design work. Companies will do what they have to to keep people buying or to increase the ratings of sales. So good try but it didn't hurt my feelings.

In this context, oh yes, its a software. No need to try and confuse him.
This software debate is just the poster's opinion.
Cant we respect his opinion can move on?

Anyway, did you get your car fixed and how did it turn out?

Yes after I took my car back to the tuner he adjusted on it for another hour and finally got the issues fixed, and the tuner is also going to try and transfer the opensource programming onto y Cobb ap and go from there. But otherwise all issues are resolved.

See,opinions are like ass holes, everyone has one. And when you go and post your opinion on an internet forum, people have every right to disagree with that opinion and then state there own. The comment about Cobb hiring Romraider's lead developer was not intended to try and make you feel bad. If the software was so crappy,Cobb wouldn't have even had an interest. And you got the analogy backwards. In this case it would have been more like Audi hiring Kia's lead designer. Cobb is an established name in the aftermarket tuning industry for many vehicle manufacturers. Romraider is Opensource freeware. You think you are the first person to get the run around from a shop/tuner? How niave are you? If you are so pissed off about it then go leave a thread about your experience with said tuner in the review subforum.
