lifted suspension and bottom out
Recently I lifted my legacy wagon, used outback front struts and 3/4 saggy butt spacers in the rear. I am a little concerned about bottoming out right now. In the rear, I dont think the suspension arms will bottom out on the bottom out bumper anymore, instead I think the strut shaft will take all the load of a hard bottom out. For the front suspension I cant find any bottom out bumpers, so I am not really sure if I should worry about this.
Is this something I should worry about? Has anyone else run into issues problems with there lifted subaru and bottoming out? I just dont want to bend a strut under a bottom out condition. Thanks

Let me know if you're ever in the area again and I'll PM you a few roads in Forest Ranch that you'd drool over. |

Yeah I've been on some roads up passed Butte Meadows before. Red clay logging/fire roads that were very smooth and flowing. I wanted to shoot there for this vid but at the time I was up there (early April '08) it was closed off due to snow!

Ive been to MANY rallys and even won contingency money from Subaru for getting on the podium. But I would NEVER say my car is "rally prepped"

I'm happy to see that others use Puma Romas for driving shoes...

get the **** out of this thread. we have very little on nasioc for those of us interested in rally and you feel the need to come in and try to screw up the thread, if he rallys the car then so be it quit whining because it has a dc sticker on it.

What're you carrying around in your rig? I've never had issues nor heard of others bottoming out their lifted rigs...
Maybe stiffer/higher rated springs would do you well. Quote:

When its all finished it with have a 250 on a moto rack hanging off the back every once and a while. I dont intend to drive the car hard under this situation I just want to make sure I have done as much as i can to not wreck my car on an unexpected pot hole. The other situation would be when I have two-four downhill bikes on the car and four people in it and we are shuttling on rough roads. During this situation I have bottomed the car before. I would have bought a truck for these two activities but the truth is I rarely am shuttling that many people and cant stand the idea of owning a truck for the sole purpose to haul my dirt bike around. I am still curious why the front suspension does not have bottom out bumpers and the rear does. At this point I am just going to run it as is and see how it goes - I havent had any issues so far with it. |

I agree, some things trucks are better for, but when that's maybe twice or thrice a month and the other 98.99Z% of the time is daily driving, a truck fails there... Look into heavier duty springs and you'll probably be set.. I did have a couple pix of 4 adults and 4 mt bikes (one was a 60 lb. brooklyn on the rearmost) on a thule hitch rack.. The back sure was lower, but no bottoming out, on a mountain drive with 20 min of dirt road... best |
